In this article, John Carlton, PE, discusses the importance of a properly designed roadway which adheres to the “Clear Zone” concept in helping to eliminate roadway hazards and mitigate the most severe outcome related to accidents. Topics covered include: • The purpose and function of a typical clear zone • Clear zones as defined by the AASHTO Roadside Design Guide • Common roadside violations to the clear zone • Risks presented by above ground hazards and drop-offs • Proper application of the clear zone concept To learn more, visit: https://lnkd.in/e-Gga9tU #50andForward #50YearsOfInsights #RoadwaySafety

Nice article about clear zones and how they mitigate collisions.

Often times, change can be: 🤐 Nerve-racking 🤔 Challenging 😱 Scary But... The opportunity that comes on the other side of change, can be invaluable, and we've seen it first hand in the Pavement Industry! → Small changes every year can change the trajectory of a historically failing roadway network Trust in the change. #PavementManagement #PavementPreservation #Change #CivilEngineer

LSM BridgeSense® (int.pat.pend) technology is a solution. Vehicle Over - Height / Bridge impacts occur in Australia / Worldwide daily and costs $100's millions / annum in repairs, traffic delays / congestion, emergency response, etc and in some cases, fatalities. BridgeSense® is a CAS (Collision Awareness / Avoidance Systems) technology that will avoid / eliminate impact on approaching Over / Under Bridges, Tunnels, etc. #lsmbridgesense, #trainsense #bridgeengineering #bridgesense #bridgeimpact #bridgedesign #bridges #bridgecollision #teamlsm #railwaysafety #technology #innovation #creativity

Finally got up close and personal to what is probably my all time favourite bridge, the Forth Rail Bridge. That said, the new Forth Road Bridge is also a pretty impressive feat of Engineering. #bridges #Engineering #StructuralEngineering #FirthofForth #Scotland

The amazing infrastructure of a suspension railway (upside-down railway) Suspension railways, also known as monorails, have several advantages, including: ·Tighter curves: Suspended railways can make tighter turns than conventional railroads and straddle monorails. More comfortable ride: When turning, passengers lean into the corner instead of away from it, making for a more comfortable ride. Better adaptation to terrain: Suspended railways can adapt to their surroundings, which can reduce the amount of engineering and demolition needed. ·AIl-weather operation: The running surface is not open-air, so it's not affected by severe weather like freezing rain and snow. ·Less noise: The running noise is less than steel wheel and rail systems. ·Less ground occupation: The structure is slender and occupies less ground resources. Better field of vision: Passengers stand high, so their field of vision is transparent and unobstructed. Better construction time: Construction can be faster and cheaper than elsewhere. Better safety record: Suspended railways are a very safe form of transport. #suspensionrailway #monorails #infrastructures #civilengineering #technology #structuralengineering #transportationengineering #architecture #engineering #concrete
