Top thing on my mind this morning: Believe it or not (not sure why you wouldn't believe me), ICHRA conversations have been picking up steam. The last three months, I've had four or five conversations with employers looking at the ICHRA as a viable option. This article explains why, at a national level, the ICHRA is appealing to more and more employers. ICHRAs can feel complicated, which is where education is so important for both the employer & employee. Once you've grasped the basics, you'll see the advantages that a ICHRA has to provide. Where I've seen it work the best is when a group is offering health insurance for the first time. You're not changing over from a group offering, which is standard & what employees are accustom to. Instead, you are starting fresh & presenting it as a way to give employees more options to pick a plan that fits their needs. https://lnkd.in/gkY7_qr6

"I think the biggest challenge in the industry right now is 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀. Everyone could benefit from a health coach, but very few can afford private coaching. Once insurance coverage is in place and coaching options are more widely available, 𝗜 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 - 𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗯𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗰𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 The Veterans Administration in the United States is doing great work right now to model and study those benefits." ✎ Sarah Hays-Coomer Forbes columnist, author, and NBC-HWC coach Health Coaching Industry Report: At the front lines of Health Your Coach, 2022, p.4 Ready to be part of the change? In my last post, I discussed health literacy and how employers can empower their employees to take charge in their health journey. Since health literacy plays such a crucial role in everyday life, here are some real-life examples: 1. Understanding Medication Labels: This includes dosage instructions, potential side effects, and other relevant information. It's important to take medications safely and effectively. 2. Making Informed Healthcare Decisions: Good health literacy looks like researching healthcare options, understanding medical information provided by healthcare professionals, and making informed decisions about health, such as choosing between treatment options or understanding the risks and benefits of medical procedures. 3. Navigating Health Insurance: Health literacy enables individuals to understand health insurance policies, including coverage options, deductibles, co-pays, and limitations. This is a great opportunity for employers to educate their employees so they can maximize their benefits. 4. Communicating with Healthcare Providers: Effective communication between patients and healthcare providers is essential for quality healthcare delivery. Through Telemedicine, it's easier to access providers and it reduces barriers to care. Overall, health literacy is essential for individuals to make informed decisions about their health, navigate the healthcare system effectively, and adopt behaviors that promote overall well-being. #healthliteracy #humanresources #GenerousBenefits

Is alternative healthcare BETTER?? Let's see how things work behind the scenes.. One of the most popular alternatives that I see are the Metashare or Christian Health Sharing programs. Pluses? ✔ Super affordable ✔ Great for preventative and wellness care Minuses? ❌ No true max out of pocket or actual financial stop loss Meaning, if you end up having a catastrophic or major medical claim, the board will look at your claim and then notify you if they have enough funds to cover it. The big risk factor is, there's no guarantee that you'll have coverage when you need it most.. This is why I always recommend going with an insurance carrier that assumes the risk and gives you a clear max out of pocket. That way you know exactly how much you're going to spend when things hit the fan!

Healthcare isn't broken, it's working exactly as designed. Problem is.... It wasn't designed by employers, employees, and good faith doctors working within the healthcare system. It has been manipulated by insurance companies, PBMs, and others with misaligned incentives to extract revenue and profit out of the system. Very often to the detriment employers and their employees. Remember, your premium dollars are their revenue. In order to break out of the system of rising costs and deteriorating benefits you have to pull yourself out of the status quo, traditional health plan. It takes education and concerted effort to get to the other side. But, it's worth it! You can take control of your health plan and be on the path to better benefits. If you have no idea where to start checkout the Indiana Manufacturers Association Healthcare webinar series starting up February 21. I'll be presenting a webinar on March 5th sharing how employers can take action today to begin the path to fixing healthcare for their employees. Check out the link in the comments to register!
