Check out a snapshot of my recent piece in EMOCEAN magazine addressing half measures and opportunities for the surfing world to do better on the environmental stewardship front!
"How the local Tahitian community and surfers banded together to minimize destruction to reef at Teahupoo leading up to the 2024 Olympics—a reminder that for all surfers environmental activism begins with the individual." Read the article, "Tower of Doom", in Emocean Magazine, written by our very own Conner Smith. https://lnkd.in/gH2KxTsJ

The #ScottCawley-sponsored Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) conference this July 16 will share examples of #GreenFinance initiatives in the UK and Ireland, evaluate nature-related financial mechanisms, and highlight opportunities for ecologists and environmental managers to advise on and access #funding to support nature’s recovery. Significant new funding is required to halt and reverse the decline of nature in the UK and Ireland - public money alone will not be enough. There is an appetite amongst private funders to invest in green initiatives but the rapid development of the green finance market has lead to concerns over corporate #greenwashing along with a confusing array of financial mechanisms. The need to demonstrate a genuine return has prompted a focus on improving methods of measuring, reporting, and verifying the impact of investments. Register below to hear more on successful initiatives to protect and restore #biodiversity and #EcosystemServices. #RestoreNature #GenerationRestoration ISFCOE - International Sustainable Finance Centre of Excellence Thomas Ball Dr Catherine Farrell Jane Stout Yvonne Buckley Mieke Siebers Business For Biodiversity Ireland
Join us at our upcoming summer conference where we'll showcase real-life examples of successful green finance initiatives in the UK and Ireland. Happy #LandcareWeek Check out the short video clip below for eloquently articulated messages about our environment and the importance of science. …From the late, great, Bob Hawke.
🌿🌏As we kick off Landcare Week 2024, we want to acknowledge the former Australian Prime Minister, Bob Hawke AC, who created Landcare Australia and landcare as a national movement in 1989.🌿🌏 🌱🚜Over the last 35 years, landcare has evolved to encompass not only farmers and conservationists in rural areas, but everyone in local communities across Australia who are taking action to 🌾restore, 🍃enhance and protect land, 💦waterways and biodiversity. 🍺🍻Since Bob’s passing in 2019, his legacy for the landcare movement continues through Landcare Australia and his close association with Hawke’s Brewing. The team from Hawke’s Brewing have continued to brew beer in his name for the enjoyment for all Australians, with Bob’s royalties going to Landcare Australia to support landcare projects including the Endangered Coastal Emu Protection project in Northern NSW, and 🦀Mudcrabs in Sydney. 🏛️♻️This Landcare Week, we want to acknowledge Bob’s contribution to landcare and his vision for all Australians: “The degradation of our environment is not simply a local problem, nor a problem for one state or another, nor for the Commonwealth alone. Rather, the damage being done to our environment is a problem for us all – and not just government- but for of us individually and together.” 💪🏅We also want to thank the team at Hawke’s Brewing for their continued support for landcare projects where communities come together to care for the land, and each other. A few years ago, the Hawke’s team recorded probably one of the last interviews with Bob. His messages from then are just as important for us to👂listen to today. Start your Landcare Week with a message from Bob and enjoy some beautiful Australian landscapes. Thank you, Bob! Watch Bob Here 📽️ https://lnkd.in/gBwc2hd #LandcareWeek #LandcareIsForeEveryone #LIFE

50 years after the first Earth Day, we still have a lot of work to do. But people are becoming aware of the need for environmental and geographic education, and clean-up efforts are being undertaken. In this video I discuss those topics.
