What impressions did last week’s workshop leave? Here’s what Rachel Armstrong, our project coordinator, had to say: "I think the integration exercise has been very important for us. It allowed us to take multiple views of our project: we’re able to look down at the detail and very specific things that happen in the project, and see how they connect then with the systems view. How they build upon each other where we got different expertises coming together in the project, but also how that then relates to the #EIC Carbon-Nitrogen Portfolio, as well as societal and economic issues around it. It is really important to have that view and also better to be able to discuss this in person, because you get a much more coherent view of how it works." In two weeks the Mi-Hy team will meet again, this time in Southampton - for practical training led by Ioannis Ieropoulos and Neil Willey. They will demonstrate the setup process for the hydroponic and MFC combination, sharing their expertise first-hand. Exciting! #EICPathfinder

Pittsburgh can move from "emerging" life sciences cluster to a real heavy weight in data driven healthcare. It will require: 1️⃣ Action from policymakers in Harrisburg to make PA more competitive 2️⃣ Dedication to commercialization from our world class universities and new forms of partnership with industry 3️⃣ A concerted effort to increase available capital and M+A throughout the business life cycle. 4️⃣ Robust talent plan - from seasoned executives to lead companies to specific skilled professions in biomanufacturing and biotechnology. What else to we need?
❔ What does southwestern PA need to turn our region's top tier #lifesicences strengths into a global cluster and economic engine? 💡 PLSA's Megan Kahn Shaw joined CytoAgents, Inc CEO Teresa Whalen, RPh and Bill Flanagan to discuss the region's promise and how PLSA can help move the needle. https://lnkd.in/ef8SqVkn #lifesciences #biotechnology #venturecapital #publicpolicy #workforcedevelopment #economicdevelopment #datadrivenhealthcare

🌍🚀 Exciting times for the #TwinSubDyn project! Our team member, Slaven Tenodi, has started a 6-month secondment at Forschungszentrum Jülich under the guidance of PD Dr. Lutz Weihermüller. 🧑🔬 Slaven will be working on managing and modeling data collected from long-term lysimeter experiments conducted at UNS PMF. The goal? To deepen our understanding of water balance and dynamics in poor sandy soils, improved with various amendments. 🌱💧 Stay tuned for updates on this important research! #ScienceInAction #SoilHealth #WaterManagement #twinsubdyn #science #europeancommission #resources #Eufunded Funded by the European Union. I'm proud to announce the completion of my externship with the National Geographic Society and The Nature Conservancy, facilitated by Extern! For my project, I investigated the contamination of Lake Atitlán in my home country of Guatemala. Lake Atitlán has faced significant environmental challenges over the years. The increasing contamination levels have affected the local ecosystems and communities relying on its resources. To spread awareness, I embarked on a project to bring this issue to light using ArcGIS StoryMaps, and the experience was nothing short of transformative. Using ArcGIS StoryMaps, I created an interactive narrative that delves into the causes, impacts, and potential solutions for Lake Atitlan's contamination issues. This project was not just about presenting data but teaching a story that resonates, educates, and inspires action. You can see it for yourself here: https://arcg.is/1PL90i1 This externship has been a profound learning experience, pushing me to blend my technical skills with storytelling to advocate for environmental sustainability. It taught me the importance of empathy in ecological conservation, showing me how technology like ArcGIS can be a powerful tool in raising awareness and driving change. Thank you to Extern Staff Satya Yagnambhat Agarwal, and Max Siegrist, MA for the advice and guidance. Thank you to Barbara Martinez, Rebecca Winterringer, and Dayne W. for the support and feedback. Lastly, I would like to thank Juan Sebastian Gomez for referring me to this program and Maria Jose Iturbide-Chang, PhD.💧💧for allowing me to interview her as part of my investigation of this issue. This is a great first step in my journey studying water resources engineering at Georgia Tech. Let's connect and collaborate on making a difference, one story at a time. 🌍💧 #GIS #EnvironmentalConservation #Storytelling #ArcGISStoryMaps #Sustainability #LakeAtitlan #paragonone #extern #natgeo #tnc #GeorgiaTech
