Employee Spotlight: Trevor Smith In celebration of Manufacturing Month, we’re excited to feature Trevor Smith, a Maintenance Technician at Berry Global with 8.5 years of experience in the industry! Check out his insights below: Position: Maintenance Technician Company: Berry Global, Inc. Years in Manufacturing: 8.5 years Q: What kind of jobs have you worked in Manufacturing? Trevor: Electronics Technician with Howard Industries Process Technician and Maintenance Technician with Berry Global Q: What made you want to get into Manufacturing? Trevor: I found the process of taking individual raw materials and combining them in such a way that they become a product consumers can use in their everyday lives. Q: What is something you think most people don’t know or understand about the Manufacturing Industry? Trevor: There is more precision required in the setup of the equipment to allow high speed, mass production to be possible than most people think. If your setup is more than .001 of an inch off, in some situations, the equipment will not run at all. Q: What is your favorite aspect of your job? Trevor: I would say the satisfaction of tearing down a broken piece of equipment to an empty shell, rebuilding it, and having it work exactly how it’s supposed to. Q: What advice would you give someone who is interested in working in the Manufacturing industry? Trevor: Don’t beat yourself up if, after 3-6 months, you still don’t understand what’s going on or are still struggling with the job. This is an extremely fast-paced industry and the amount of moving parts involved can be overwhelming at times. Pay attention and learn as much as you can about how certain manufacturing equipment is supposed to run, and it will make it easier for you to spot when a malfunction begins so you can correct it before it becomes catastrophic. #ManufacturingMonth #EmployeeSpotlight #PRCC #Manufacturing

Helping businesses digitalise, streamline operations, realise cost savings, and achieve new levels of efficiency through game-changing no-code software.
I spent nearly 6 years of my career in the manufacturing sector working at Nifco UK Limited at Eaglescliffe. I went through 3 different roles while at Nifco UK Limited, Operator, Tool Setter and finally, I became a Technician & Section Leader. (I miss working at NIFCO, manufacturing is a great industry). My duties as an Operator were pretty straightforward, pack parts when they come off the machine belts into the correct packaging, put the correct labels on, and keep the place tidy. Simple 👌. I put 110% into this role. Within 9 months I managed to land myself a Tool Setter position. A tool setter did many things, but my main role was to change injection moulding machines over to new jobs when needed. Again, I put 110% into this role. Within 6 months I was promoted to Technician & Section Leader. I had my own section of 13 moulding machines to manage and keep running, 6-axis robots, staff to manage etc and again I put 110% effort into this role. Did I mention I was 21/22 years old when I became a Technician, I think the youngest technician NIFCO had till that date but I could be wrong on that. I didn't have any qualifications when I became a Tool Setter or Technician, I was very much thrown into the deep end and it was a sink-or-swim situation. I didn't panic, I got on with it, got sh*t done, If I got stuck I asked for help and learned as I went along. And again, I put 110% effort into it. Yes, it could have been a little bit of 'the right place and right time' but I think having the right attitude and putting in 110% effort into it helped. Don't underestimate these three career skills 👇 Do you agree?

Technician Spotlight! Gordon M. 1. How did you get started in the industry? I was born into the industry as my dad is a mechanic. I have been doing this my entire life. 2. What do you like about MF or your shop? I like the team effort which is put into everything. The management cares about the employees and it feels like a company/team effort where everyone works together. 3. What advice do you have for a new employee? Be patient while learning the new systems, standards, and procedures to produce a really great repair. Be open to feedback and know that learning this industry takes time and effort. You become much more effective by listening, learning, maintaining an open-mind, and being open to feedback. 4. What do you wish others knew about what it’s like to be a technician? I wish people were more patient because doing a repair right the first time may take time. 5. What are your future goals? I plan on taking any training courses we offer and supporting the training of new technicians. I would love to build armor-proof vehicles.
