I built SpineSource, Inc. on the fundamental principle of fusion devices...a true #arthrodesis. Not dynamic stabilization. Not "fixation only" devices (i.e., screws and triangular wedges for the #SIJoint). Not "dead bone society" allografts (i.e., cadaver bone implanted into the SI joint interosseous space that resorb and fail). The published clinical literature and FDA's MAUDE database documents these failures in detail. 🦴 The principle is simple and has been the same since the first fusion in human history: "It's a race to fusion (arthrodesis) or failure." Period. The only potential longterm exception in spine I've seen is TDR in the cervical spine. 🦴 I learned these principles from the AO Spine while working at Synthes in the 90s. 🦴 Fundamentals are ALWAYS what matters to help ensure a positive outcome. 🦴 Seeing these early outcomes from Tenon Medical, Inc. for the #Catamaran SI Joint Fusion System is something I've waited 4+ years to see. 🦴 It validates what Alec Mitchell and I always knew as we initially launched this awesome device during The Great Lockdown of 2020, and as Alec continues to do today: When a joint is "disrupted", then adequately fixated and stabilized with robust implant(s) that help promote healing, the chance for true arthrodesis increases. That is the fundamental principle of #Catamaran. 🦴 I'm very proud to have been part of this device launch early on, and so happy to know patients with debilitating, life-altering pain have improved by choosing a doctor who offered this surgery to them with Catamaran. 🦴 Inside, we've seen all the anecdotes: Patients literally crying and hugging their doctors after this surgery because their pain is reduced and in many csaes, gone!! These are the true rewards and legacy of being an entrepreneur in the medical device industry. 🦴 I can only encourage Tenon to keep sticking to these fundamentals, and for doctors at every level to remember the fundamentals of permanently healing a patient. P.S. I did not even touch on the surgical approach this device uses: much improved for avoiding the critical neurovascular structures so many other SI devices end up comprising and getting onto the true synovial SI joint.
