+++ 𝗤𝟭 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘂𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲 +++ We started the year with good progress across our oncology pipeline and our commercialization activities. Some key events: 🔬 𝗢𝗻𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆: We and our collaboration partner Duality Biologics dosed the first patient in a Phase 3 clinical trial with our #ADC candidate BNT323/DB-1303 in breast cancer patients, advancing towards BioNTech’s goal of ten or more potentially registrational trials running by the end of 2024. 🩹 𝗖𝗢𝗩𝗜𝗗-𝟭𝟵: We are focusing on preparing for variant-strain adaptation of our COVID-19 vaccine to be ready for a commercial launch ahead of the upcoming 2024/2025 vaccination season, pending approvals. 🌎 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀: We appointed our General Manager Fatma Ocak for the U.S. in line with our commercial preparations to drive our first expected global #oncology product launch. From a pharma standpoint, oncology drugs represent about 22% of the industry’s total revenue. Sales of cancer therapies are expected to surpass $320 billion by 2026, highlighting both the economic importance of, and the critical need for, innovative solutions in this field. However, the path to oncology drug development and the challenge to give patients access to these new therapies is fraught with challenges. Developing new cancer drugs and treating patients with cancer entails overcoming numerous hurdles. Three major areas where pharma faces challenges, and where digital innovations show promise are (1) clinical trial design, (2) patient identification, and (3) patient engagement. Merck, AstraZeneca, and Gilead are leading the race in developing antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), a promising cancer treatment. These three companies collectively have 33 Phase 3 clinical trials underway, indicating their strong commitment and competitive edge in the ADC field. ADCs are innovative therapies that combine antibodies with potent anti-cancer drugs to target and destroy cancer cells more effectively while minimizing damage to healthy cells. Drug development is a roller coaster 🎢 marathon. We identified CEACAM1 as a target for #cancer #immunotherapy, and generated our anti-CEACAM1 antibody in 2009. Licensed to cCAM Biotherapeutics Ltd. , it was developed into CM-24, and after a period at MSD, it eventually merged into Purple Biotech. The first highly encouraging! mid-trial results of the pivotal randomized Phase 2b trial, came out in #ASCO 2024 (Purple Biotech in collaboration with Bristol Myers Squibb), targeting among the hardest of indications: #Pancreatic_Cancer after failure of frontline chemotherapy. CM-24 in combination with nivolumab and chemotherapy, was compared to chemotherapy. Response rates were 25% vs. 7%. All other indicators were also in favor of the experimental arm. We know from past that Nivolumab (with or without chemo) unfortunately doesn’t work in these patients. I wrote this post now, 3 weeks after ASCO, because I wanted to share I feel blessed & privileged that some real patients (pancreatic cancer!) have benefited from our anti-CEACAM1. Well done Michael Schickler, Gil Efron and the entire Purple Biotech team for making this happen. Big thank you to an enormous list of partners that contributed along all of these years.
