𝐅𝐃𝐀 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐈𝐂𝐋𝐔𝐒𝐈𝐆® 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐍𝐞𝐰𝐥𝐲 𝐃𝐢𝐚𝐠𝐧𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐏𝐡+ 𝐀𝐋𝐋 Takeda (TSE:4502/NYSE:TAK) Takeda announced FDA approval for ICLUSIG® (ponatinib) for newly diagnosed Philadelphia chromosome-positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia (Ph+ ALL) in adults, in combination with chemotherapy. This approval, based on the PhALLCON study, marks a significant advancement in treating this aggressive cancer. ICLUSIG demonstrated superiority over imatinib, with a greater than two-fold improvement in MRD-negative complete remission. The safety profile was comparable to imatinib, with no new safety signals. Dr. Elias Jabbour Élias Jabbour from MD Anderson Cancer Center stated that ICLUSIG may address critical factors for better long-term outcomes in Ph+ ALL patients. ICLUSIG is also approved for other indications. Findings presented in Chicago at the annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) significantly broadened the range of breast cancer patients that could benefit from Enhertu, an antibody-drug conjugate designed to deliver toxic chemotherapy directly to tumours. The data showed an “unprecedented” improvement in progression-free survival, supporting the thesis that antibody-drug conjugates can deliver their payloads more specifically to cancer cells. AstraZeneca and Daiichi Sankyo Canada’s Enhertu slows the progression of breast cancer by about five months in women whose disease worsened after endocrine therapy – even if they had very low levels of the mutant protein targeted by the drug, according to trial results. Primary authors Tine Logghe and Eke van Zwol highlight the role of hyperthermia (HT) as a modality in cancer treatment, particularly its effectiveness as a sensitizer and its impact on cancer–immunity processes and oncogenic pathways. The article notes the recent focus on immunotherapy (IT) and targeted therapy (TT) in cancer research, both in academia and pharmaceutical companies. The main focus of the manuscript is to explore potential therapies that can enhance the effects of HT by targeting molecular pathways. The ultimate goal is to pave the way for future research and clinical trials, aiming to harness the synergistic potential of combining emerging IT and TT with HT for improved outcomes.
