👨⚕️Did you know we have THREE main components to our own lab in Europe? Why do we invest so heavily into the lab? Because we base our protocols on science and substantiating the effect of our plant extracts. The research into the effect of our extracts, in combination with literature research, has continued to develop. This allows us to gain more knowledge not only about the working mechanism, but also the quality and safety of our products. The QSB-Research Center consists of three main labs: 🔬The Microbiological Lab: research into the anti-biofilm effect and effect on antibiotic resistant micro-organisms 🦠The Cell Culture Lab: research on the field of cell biology with a focus on immune system, gastrointestinal tract, and risk assessment 🔬The Chemical Analytical Lab: analysing and quantifying the plant extracts and measuring product quality #science #animalhealth #biotech #quorumsensing #dairyhealth #herdhealth #PowerToTheFarmer

🎉 Helaina has achieved another major milestone! Our first human bioactive ingredient, Effera™ Human Lactoferrin, has been shown to have low allergenic risk. 🌱 Using a weight-of-evidence approach by Codex, we have demonstrated the safety of Effera™ Human Lactoferrin, our first human bioactive ingredient. Our team harnessed the power of sophisticated modeling techniques to understand how Effera™ Human Lactoferrin gets digested by pepsin. By simulating its digestion using a simulated gastric pepsin digestion model, we were able to sequence the peptides that were released after digestion, compare them to known allergens, and perform allergenicity assessment. We are thrilled to share the details of our groundbreaking research in our most recent publication. At Enzyan, we are captivated by the intricate molecular architectures that nature creates and their potential to address society's most pressing problems. This week we have an example on how enzymes can perform incredibly precise reactions. 🌱 Scopolamine is a potent alkaloid traditionally extracted from plants like Datura and Hyoscyamus. Scopolamine, a nonspecific muscarinic antagonist, plays a crucial role in medicine, particularly as a treatment for motion sickness, postoperative nausea, and certain neurological conditions. In fact, it is on the World Health Organization's List of Essential Medicines. However, the current reliance on plant extraction to obtain scopolamine presents challenges—it's labor-intensive, dependent on agricultural yields, and susceptible to environmental factors. 🧑🔬 At Enzyan, we believe biocatalysis offers transformative solutions. By harnessing the power of enzymes, we can rethink the biosynthesis of scopolamine, moving beyond traditional plant sources. Enzymes, much like chemical catalysts, can be employed in innovative manufacturing processes to introduce complex functional groups in an enantioselective fashion. As an example, the enzyme 6β-hydroxyhyoscyamine epoxidase is able to perform a late-stage regio and enantioselective epoxidation of a non activated C-H bond to yield the final product Scopolamine. This unique reaction shows the power of biocatalytic transformations. Through enzyme-driven biosynthesis, we can unlock more sustainable, scalable, and highly precise methods to produce scopolamine. 🤝 Let's connect if you're interested in exploring how biocatalysis can revolutionize the production of your target molecule! office@enzyan.com #alkaloids #biocatalysis #scopolamine #enzymes #C-Hactivation #latestagefunctionalization

Excited to share a groundbreaking study in Analytical Chemistry by Sijia Zheng and team, who've developed a sophisticated strategy for detecting and annotating gut microbiota-related metabolites through liquid chromatography−high-resolution mass spectrometry (LC−HRMS). This research marks a vertical advancement in our understanding of the complex interplay between gut microbiota and host health. The strategy employs an optimized PFP LC−HRMS method paired with a comprehensive database, leading to the annotation of 672 metabolites in mouse samples, 21% of which were previously unknown. This subset includes metabolites missed by conventional detection methods, providing a richer, more detailed view of the metabolomic landscape influenced by gut microbiota. This work opens up new pathways for exploring gut microbiota's impact on health and disease, offering potential for novel therapeutic interventions. A fantastic read for anyone researching the intricacies of microbiome-related metabolomics. These sorts of insights will undoubtedly propel further research in the field. #MicrobiotaMetabolomics #LC−HRMS #BioanalyticalChemistry #GutMicrobiome #MetaboliteAnnotation #Metabolomics #AnalyticalChemistry https://lnkd.in/g-s5xvak
