Reagents for the Latest Outbreak Variants: Recently a major outbreak of mpox in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has led been linked to a new strain. The WHO state "The new strain of clade I MPXV linked to human-to-human transmission represents a renewed risk of cross-border and international spread which may potentially lead to an increased risk of severe illness." At Biosynth we pride ourselves on staying with the science. We have already aligned and evaluated the sequences of the newest strain of this ongoing outbreak and have determined our unique mpox peptides (which contain the surface glycoprotein B21R) will be suitable for use for detection of the emerging clade I MPXV strain. Read our full article on mpox, current outbreaks and detection, or contact us now to discuss working with Biosynth to ensure long term and bulk supply for critical reagents for mpox detection. Cannabigerol (CBG), a lesser-explored cannabinoid, has shown promising signs regarding its potential antibacterial properties. Current research suggests that CBG may interact with the body's endocannabinoid system, potentially inhibiting the growth of certain bacteria. For instance, a study published by ACS Infectious Diseases indicated that CBG exhibited promising antibacterial effects in laboratory settings. This is particularly true in the case of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). For a more in-depth understanding, click the links below to visit our website and delve into the scientific nuances of CBG as well this recent study on CBG's antibacterial properties. The nOPV2 has been presented a solution to cVDPV2 emergence, but many recent papers had showed that despite the lower risk for mutation, the nOPV2 strains can also revert to virulence and cause AFP cases. The recent publication attached comproved the risk for introduction of VDPV2 mutants in Russia. The excretion of virus, even after second dose is high, and can persist for 57.8 days +-35.4 days. The only way to achieve global eradication is using full IPV. Of course high VCR are key independently of the vaccine used.

Current scientific research is focused on the search for natural compounds with potential antiviral or inhibitory properties in the context of pathogenic viruses such as West Nile Virus, Usutu virus, Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever virus, and Dengue. The objective of these studies is to understand the mechanisms of interaction between these pathogens and biologically active compounds. The perspective is to develop effective therapeutic or prophylactic strategies in combating the spread of viruses.

Journal Article Non-KPC Attributes of Newer β-lactam/β-lactamase Inhibitors, Part 1: Enterobacterales and Pseudomonas aeruginosa Get access Andrew J Fratoni, Matthew L Gethers, David P Nicolau, Joseph L Kuti Clinical Infectious Diseases, Volume 79, Issue 1, 15 July 2024, Pages 33–42, https://lnkd.in/guj8YvXj. My take: - Interesting review of carbapenem-resistance and the role of the new drugs. - Nice review of the difference in resistance mechanisms between Enterobacterales and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. - They did not talk about CRAB (Carbapenem R Acinetobacter baumanii), not sure why. - Unfortunately, they did not talk much about CEFIDEROCOL and SULBACTAM-DURLOBACTAM, both game changers and part of my daily practice.

Multiple cases of Melioidosis locally acquired in the USA (Mississippi) between 2020-2023, infected from the environment. Again, demonstrating the importance of microbiology tests for effective diagnosis of infections, and strain typing for valuable and complete epidemiologic investigation. No one would have suspected this pathogen without the diagnostic test results. #diagnosticsispower https://lnkd.in/ef7APs9T

The final chapter of my MS thesis has now been published in Viruses Vol. 16 Issue 9 (https://lnkd.in/d-GM-_E7). Similar to our approach for the Spike protein (https://lnkd.in/d9GG6PbE) and Membrane protein (https://lnkd.in/dvygaBJe) for SARS-COV-2. I want to thank my mentor Prof. Gustavo Caetano-Anolles for his help throughout this process. We have now completed our goal for analyzing the structural proteins of SARS-COV-2 across the various haplotypes and major variants throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. The structures for each protein can be accessed through the model archive database at: https://lnkd.in/d9rhmrhE (M-protein), https://lnkd.in/dE5Nijvv (S-protein), and https://lnkd.in/dG_N6gw3 (N-protein). #sarscov2 #covid19 #alphafold #evolution #bioinformatics #proteins #nucleocapsid #viruses #research

Why are mosquito-borne viral infections rarely STIs? It may sound like an odd question, but it’s not for lack of trying (shedding) - Dengue, Zika, Chikungunya and more are present and even persistent in semen and there are plenty of permissive cell types in the anogenital tract. So what’s going? We looked into this and found a pretty amazing innate antiviral mechanism: it’s mediated by extracellular vesicles, relies on a specific lipid molecule and acts by “brute force” receptor overloading. Out now and open-access! https://lnkd.in/gS9X3UyW For the short version, check out this great summary by Leonid Margolis published alongside: https://lnkd.in/gS9X3UyW
