You may have seen recently some misleading news articles which tried to link the use of plant protection products (PPPs) to food contamination by PFAS substances. The inappropriate combination of information from different sources in the English written press missed two key and fundamental points: 1) the report by The Expert Committee on Pesticide Residues in Food (PRiF) annual report made no direct mention of PFAS substances and 2) in the Regulatory Management Option Analysis (RMOA), PPPs were not identified as an area of action. I urge those who also share a modicum of sense and a healthy interest in locally grown fresh produce, to be careful when digesting stories in the media and to question how sources of information have been used.
