Success stories are our favourites! Congratulations to Team BioThrust for securing a significant 7-digit investment from Frank Thelen and his VC Freigeist. 💰 At the heart of this achievement lies a pressing problem: Stem cell therapies hold immense promise in treating diseases like cancer, Alzheimer's, and Parkinson's. However, the current procedures are prohibitively expensive, limiting access to these life-changing treatments. The RWTH Aachen University spinoff has developed gassing solutions for bioreactors which prevent the formation of bubbles and circumvent foam, making their reactor and ideal environment to grow stem cells in. This breakthrough isn't just about innovation; it's about transforming lives. With their pioneering technology, BioThrust aims to democratize access to stem cell therapies, potentially revolutionizing medical research and treatment outcomes. What a remarkable achievement! 👏 #investment #startup #biotech #lifescience

As BIONATION draws near, it’s time to meet our BIONATION Builders and showcase the incredible work they do. First up is Stem Cell Network! The Stem Cell Network (SCN) is a Canadian not-for-profit that supports stem cell and regenerative medicine research; training the next generation of highly qualified personnel; and knowledge mobilization and transfer of stem cell and regenerative medicine research. From the lab to the clinic, SCN’s goal is to power life-saving therapies and technologies through regenerative medicine research for the benefit of all. Created in 2001, with support from the Government of Canada, the Network has grown from a few dozen labs to more than 270 world-class research groups, supporting over 250 research projects and 30 clinical trials. Since its inception, over 25 biotech companies have been catalyzed or enhanced and more than 7,000 highly qualified personnel have been trained. In 2023, the Government of Canada announced additional funding for SCN through the Strategic Science Fund that will support SCN activities and research through to the end of the decade. Excited to have Stem Cell Network on board and looking forward to their involvement at BIONATION, September 24-25 in Ottawa. 🗓 Mark your calendars! MIT Jameel Clinic - AI & Health PI Dina Katabi will be speaking at an NIH National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) Workshop "Advances in Therapeutics Development for Parkinson's Disease" on April 23rd at 2:40pm during Session 4 on using biomarkers to enhance the early detection of Parkinson's. Despite substantial public and private interest in developing therapeutics for the Parkinson's community, there persists separation between disease understanding and development of drugs to target these processes in Parkinson’s patients. NINDS is convening a hybrid workshop co-chaired by Alice Chen-Plotkin and Bill Martin, PhD with the overarching goal to 1️⃣ delineate what the crucial elements of those gaps are and 2️⃣ determine how to close those gaps as a community of stakeholders, including academic researchers, industry partners, non-profit organizations, and people with lived experience of Parkinson's.
