If you’re an Executive Assistant sitting around waiting for someone to tell you what to do, you’re holding yourself back. The best EAs don’t wait to be told. They act. They see what needs to be done, and they handle it without hesitation. You know why? Because waiting for permission isn’t just a waste of time, it’s a liability. Executive Assistant: When is it time to leave your executive? Sometimes, the answer is clear: when staying is costing you more than it’s giving back. If your values feel out of sync with the company, you’re not feeling appreciated, or there’s no real opportunity for growth, take a step back and ask yourself: Is this still the right place for me? If the role is wearing you down and impacting your well-being, even though you’ve done your best to make it work, it might not be about fault but about recognising when the environment is no longer right for you. At times, it’s simply a matter of compatibility. No one’s at fault, not you, not your executive. Some partnerships just don’t click, and that’s perfectly normal. It’s better to acknowledge this and move on than to stay in a situation that isn’t working for either party. When your time, boundaries, or contributions don’t align with what’s needed or expected, it’s not about fault but a mismatch. It’s crucial to recognise this. If you find yourself dreading the day ahead, losing your passion, and feeling mentally checked out, then it's time to act. Remember this: You’re more than just a role, and your potential deserves to be nurtured in a place where you can truly thrive. So don’t be afraid to take that step.
