We are excited to share that – in partnership with The Ohio State University, The Columbus Region, and Ohio Life Sciences – we've released a new report: “Enabling Innovation: Unpacking the Urgent Need for Wet Lab Space in the Columbus Region”. https://bit.ly/Mwl24 Written by third-party partner Shift Health, the report distills data and input from 25 key stakeholders to outline the urgent need for dedicated, modern wet labs space for the growing number of life sciences startups and corporations. Below are a few of the report highlights: - Columbus is a growing market and an emerging hub for life sciences companies at various stages. - There is a critical gap in wet lab space that could hinder the future growth of the Region’s burgeoning life sciences sector and economy. - The Columbus Region needs to develop a coordinated, long-term strategy for wet lab space, while looking at near-term opportunities to make progress. Rev1 has been a longtime advocate for finding a solution for the lack of modern wet labs in our region and we are hopeful that this report and the strength in our collective message will pave the way for progress and ensure a better future for life sciences companies!

Hey 🇬🇧 entrepreneurs and scientists, this is great news. You might have heard of ARIA, the 🇬🇧 new R&D funding agency aims to unlock big scientific & technological breakthroughs that can benefit everyone. Fewer of you will have heard of Fifty Years (5050) who are proven investors that back scientists looking to successfully tackle the world's biggest problems as entrepreneurs. 5050 are led by awesome founders Ela Madej & Seth Bannon who are fellow Y Combinator S12 batch mates. Advanced Research + Invention Agency (ARIA) is led by a cracking team & notably Chairman Matt Clifford. This partnership is a natural fit and the best backing you might wish for in tackling those big breakthroughs. Demis Hassabis needed Google to scale up, and today win a Nobel Prize. Here is another path you can take.
🇬🇧 In partnership with the Advanced Research + Invention Agency (ARIA), we’re bringing 5050 to the UK! 🇬🇧 The UK is a global powerhouse of invention. Penicillin, DNA’s double helix, MRIs, monoclonal antibodies, the electric motor, the telephone, and the World Wide Web were all invented or discovered by brilliant UK minds. Yet, none of those inventions were successfully commercialized in the UK. Britain invents the future – then others go build it. This pattern is primed to be broken. 5050 will inspire and equip scientists and engineers in the UK to become great founders and build the next decade of civilization-defining companies. The first cohort starts early next year. Follow the link below to be the first to know when applications open.

On this day of absolutely no corporate-related holiday at all, I want to say how proud I am of the team at Defined Bioscience. When we opened our doors in a small one-room lab/office combo, we had no idea if anyone was going to care about what we had to offer. Sure, you do your market analysis, see that you have a clear advantage, and get to work. But does that mean someone is ACTUALLY going to take interest? Fast-forward to now: we have almost a dozen products for cell culture, papers citing our reagents in their research, state/federal/private funding, and a dedicated team of scientists and entrepreneurs to support an ever-growing base of customers and partners. We've gone from the occasional email inquiry three years ago to product shipments every day this week. And it couldn't have happened without everyone here that answers emails, processes orders, makes and tests products, troubleshoots, and gets the boxes out of the door. Not everyone has had the same experience we have, and every startup road is bumpy. I'm proud of the group of people that make Defined a real team, and not just another company, to make what we've achieved possible.

So, you are developing a novel product to address a serious unmet need. Great! In fact, you're product is so novel, so innovative, that your users have no previous experience with anything similar to compare it with. How do you then go about ensuring they will be able to use it properly? How do you avoid falling into the traps of existing misconceptions? In the latest edition of ONdrugDelivery, I describe the success strategies we used at Clexio Biosciences to address Human Factors in the absence of a previously-familiar mental model. What exactly does this mean? Welcome to check it out here: https://lnkd.in/du8Dwe7C

A note from on of our Co-founders Bruce: It must be a Scottish thing… You may or may not be aware but the Scots are very good at inventing things. Now before anyone quips, “yep they’re the best at inventing reasons to not get their round in at the bar” …oh ho ho…never heard that old chestnut before…I want to point out that they have actually invented some pretty significant things. The television…invented by John Logie Baird, a Scot Penicillin…invented by Alexander Fleming, a Scot The toaster…invented by Alan MacCaster, a Scot Decimal points…invented by John Napier, a Scot The telephone…invented by Alexander Graham Bell, a Scot The hypodermic syringe, Alexander Wood, another Scot Golf…Not sure who the inventor was, but definitely a Scot America, OK that one’s a stretch but have you ever met an American who doesn’t claim to have a great, great, great, great, great, grand father three times removed who was a Scot? No me neither so on that basis we must have invented the place! Maybe all this invention buried in my Scottish DNA explains why I love working on the new Phraktion app! Every conversation with Rusty, our lead developer, feels like another invention logged on our journey to change the way work gets done in pharma. Need something doing? We just invented an algorithm that quickly gets you connected to a Partner that can help. Need a way to know if one our partners is any good? (they all are by the way) We have invented a method of capturing feedback from their clients in all sorts of different ways, to give you the confidence you need to select them. Want to know if a phraktion job will be well managed? We just invented a way to programmatically track very component part of the job from initial idea to paying the final invoice so nothing drops through the cracks. Every day in the development journey brings a bunch of new inventions all designed to change the way work gets done in pharma. Want to get the inside track? Get in touch. It’s the conversations with potential clients and partners that fuels the ideas. Find us at phraktion.com #pharma #fractional #innovation

In a recent GlobeSt story about the life sciences sector, I was able to give some insight on the expansion of life sciences investments and emerging markets. Life sciences investments are expanding beyond Boston and San Diego into secondary markets like Florida. Site selection factors include proximity to universities, existing operations, and infrastructure considerations. Companies are also exploring specialized development, such as cGMP production and vivarium spaces. The onshore production need, emphasized during the pandemic, remains crucial. Emerging markets are witnessing significant growth in the bioscience healthcare workforce, attracting startups and established companies. The industry is diversifying geographically to seize various opportunities and support future advancements. https://lnkd.in/eba-nFxY #LifeSciences #ResearchCollaboration #WorkforceDevelopment #DevelopmentTrends #BioResearch
