Researchers have developed an efficient method for selecting high-affinity aptamers, often dubbed "chemical antibodies." Traditional aptamer selection is laborious, but this new technique employs a non-fouling porous hydrogel with immobilized target proteins. It allows low-affinity candidates to be quickly released while retaining high-affinity ones. This one-step enrichment process works across multiple proteins and has been demonstrated with an anti-thrombin aptamer, showcasing comparable binding affinity to traditional methods involving over ten selection cycles.
