We must combat Hospital-Acquired Infections with prevention.🏥 Hospitals are teeming with pathogens. Contact with infected individuals, including healthcare workers, and airborne transmission through droplets are common transmission routes. 📚 A recent report published on May 6th by the ECDC titled "Point prevalence survey of healthcare-associated infections and antimicrobial use in European acute care hospitals 2022–2023" sheds light on a critical issue. The data, spanning 28 EU/EEA countries plus Kosovo, Montenegro, and Serbia, involved 293,581 patients from 1,250 hospitals and reported 22,806 #healthcareassociatedinfections (HAIs). Key findings include 📊: •7 out of 100 patients acquired infections in hospitals. •1 in 3 bacteria were drug-resistant. This reality underscores the urgent need for proactive infection prevention strategies. By focusing on prevention rather than cure, we can significantly mitigate the risks associated with hospital-acquired infections, safeguarding both patients and healthcare workers. Investing in solutions like BIOVITAE 's no-UV LED technology is crucial. Biovitae offers continuous environmental sanitization without harming animals or people, effectively reducing the presence of harmful pathogens. https://lnkd.in/dMNF8U-T

The integration of UV-C technology within healthcare settings represents a significant advancement in infection prevention strategies, offering a multifaceted approach to ensure safer environments for both patients and staff members. UV-C technology effectively targets and eliminates harmful pathogens, including bacteria, viruses, and fungi, thereby reducing the risk of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and promoting overall patient safety. By supplementing traditional cleaning protocols with UV-C disinfection, healthcare facilities can achieve a higher level of environmental cleanliness, which is crucial for preventing the spread of infectious diseases and enhancing the quality of care delivered to patients.

Edwards et al. (2024) reported an enhanced Wells-Riley model to assess airborne infection risk in indoor environments under more realistic conditions than the traditional method. They analyzed the significant risk of infection to a susceptible person who remains in the indoor space after the infector leaves. Using their enhanced model, they studied two scenarios: one where a healthcare worker (the infector) visits a patient, and another where a group dines at a restaurant (with one member being the infector). In the first scenario, they showed that increasing the removal rate (ventilation plus inactivation and deposition) reduces the risk of infection. They used removal rates ranging from 6.75 to 68 CFM/person. For comparison, the ASHRAE Standard 241 recommends a clean airflow of 70 CFM/person in such cases. In the second scenario, they used removal rates of 78 and 149 CFM/person for a worst-case scenario involving a party of five people. For comparison, ASHRAE Standard 241 requires 60 CFM/person. Their results indicate that larger parties have a higher risk of infection due to longer interaction times, highlighting the importance of social and behavioral factors. https://lnkd.in/enWSpbJ4

Bacteria that are resistant to biocides (disinfectants) is becoming increasingly problematic for hospitals. Frequent wipe-downs is time time consuming, expensive and can hinder attendance to the patient. The added complexity is the fear cleaning staff have, which leads to avoidance of areas that need the most cleaning. To address these challenges, lower cost, reduce the infection load and speed-up patient recovery; hospitals are using Far-UVC lights. This is because Far-UVC continuously destroy bacteria and viruses from the moment they are released. These lights keep the hospital substantially clearer of viruses, bacteria and mould.

BACOBAN® IS EFFECTIVE AGAINST ANTIBIOTIC RESISTANCE An article from the German Berliner Zeitung demonstrates that the problem of antimicrobial antibiotic resistance, which has existed for many years, is as topical as ever. Multi-resistant hospital germs in particular pose a serious threat to patient health and make preventative infection control measures essential. "The increasing resistance of pathogens to antibiotics continues to worry experts. The World Health Organization (WHO) has now published its list of the most dangerous bacteria, against which existing drugs often fail, has now updated." Berliner Zeitung https://lnkd.in/e2p-2Mfb With their long-term antimicrobial effect, our Bacoban® surface disinfectants can help to reduce the spread of pathogens and thus curb the development of resistant strains of bacteria and protect patients' health.

Ongoing Infection Prevention COVID-19 The necessity to utilise the wide-ranging portfolio of Infection Prevention products designed to protect both your business and your personnel is still incredibly valid. COVID-19 has not gone away. The virus continues to mutate into numerous variants, which will, in all probability, continue to fuel COVID-19 levels of infection. One thing is for sure, the virus is still in and amongst society. MONKEYPOX The World Health Organisation has again declared mpox, an infectious disease caused by the Monkeypox virus, a global health emergency. This is the second time a global health emergency has been declared within the last two years. Monkeypox (an enveloped virus) belongs to the Orthopoxvirus genus in the family Poxviridae. The virus is transmitted by coming into contact with someone infected or from contaminated surfaces. There has never been a greater time to demonstrate continued vigilance and high levels of biosecurity and hygiene within cleaning regimes. GDGUK LTD has a robust Infection Prevention range of products engineered to protect the working environment. Two particular chemicals that we supply, ULTRA AX and ULTRA EXTREME have already added the virus that causes Monkeypox to the ULTRA AX efficacy claims – effective in 60 seconds. ULTRA XTREME, as well as being efficacious for enveloped and non-enveloped viruses, is also certified to inactivate the polio virus. #infectioncontrol #healthcare #ultraax #ultraxtreme #infectionprevention #cleaningsupplies #virus #PPEsupplies For further information, contact GDGUK on 01245 361 717 or email salesenquiries@gdguk.com
