🦋Our young explorers at our Pelham Bay Early Childhood Center took flight on an amazing journey of butterflies! After reading “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” by Eric Carle and “Caterpillar to Butterfly” by Laura Marsh, our students watched their own caterpillars🐛 transform into beautiful butterflies over two weeks. They learned about metamorphosis, pupa, chrysalis, and cocoon, and discovered what it takes to keep a butterfly happy: a little sugar or honey water! #birchfamilyservices #LearningThroughNature #animalovers

Christ driven influencer, advocate and soldier for a "Reverence for Life" , the ethos that is the love of Jesus bestowed universally. Blogger and Author of the For Our Friends the Animals quartet. Cancer survivor!
#forourfriendstheanimals #reverenceforlife #schweitzer #mercy #compassion #spirituality #creativity #love #life #loveofJesus My dear friends, below you will find an Amazon link to my book, volume 1 of the for our friends the animals quartet. I intend shortly to ramp up the marketing and promotion aspects, as, while an order did pour in yesterday, the book is not exiting store shelves, brick and mortar or web based, in any meaningful way. This first volume is a labor of love for me, an attempt both to rekindle a regrettably flagging interest in Dr. Schweitzer and his ethos of a reverence for life, and to promote the love of Jesus as our lodestar, worthy of emulation and sharing. Here is the last section of the introduction: " One final thought and clarification before we begin our spiritual trek together. This book does employ the conceit of a voyage into spirituality for purposes of structure, form, and continuity to our argument. This book centers on the reader becoming open and receptive to the spirit of Jesus through His words and relevant commentary. With each subsequent review and examination, I will introduce, develop, and rework an understanding and applicability of the presence of the spirit of our Savior. So every thought and follow-on exposition in the book will build upon and flesh out preceding ideas, all leading toward our ultimate duty to embed the spirit and words of the Lord into the discharge of our daily obligations to ambient life. In particular, of course, we seek to arrive at a destination where each reader applies that spirit and those words to his/her dealings and relations with animals." In all sincerity, these books are written not for royalties, but for the privilege, as an unworthy epigone of the doctor and an equally unworthy lover of the spirit of Jesus, of sharing this message of loving life affirmation with you. Cum meo maximo amore!

Imagine being able to recognise yourself in a mirror, to understand that the reflection staring back is actually you. This level of self-awareness is not just reserved for humans; elephants, these majestic creatures, share this extraordinary ability. Elephants possess a remarkable sense of self, a trait that sets them apart from most animals. Studies have shown that they can identify and recognize their reflection, a skill that only a handful of species, including humans, great apes, and dolphins, are known to possess. But why is this self-awareness significant? It is a window into the complex cognitive and emotional world of elephants. Just like humans, elephants are known for their strong social bonds and empathy towards others. Their self-awareness allows them to recognize their own emotions and empathise with the experiences of their fellow herd members. This heightened self-awareness also plays a crucial role in their survival. Elephants use their ability to recognise themselves as individuals to navigate through their environment, remember important locations such as water sources, and communicate effectively within their herds. It's a skill that contributes to their adaptability and resilience in the face of changing circumstances. As we marvel at the self-awareness of elephants, it's a reminder of the incredible diversity and complexity of life on our planet. It's a call to appreciate and protect these magnificent creatures and the ecosystems they inhabit. So next time you encounter an elephant, remember that behind those wise eyes lies a creature with self-awareness, empathy, and a deep understanding of its place in the world. Let us learn from these gentle giants and strive to cultivate our own self-awareness to better connect with each other and the world around us. #Elephants #Selfawareness #WildlifeConservation #Empathy #NatureLovers #GalleryMarlien

Donate to vote and help us protect the greater glider and make it the Project TV 2024 Marsupial of the Year! The greater glider is Australia's largest flying marsupial and arguably Australia’s cutest mammal (I certainly think so). With four legs, a tail longer than its body, and an incredible ability to glide up to 100 metres through treetops, they’re truly a sight to behold. Beyond their cuteness and acrobatics, greater gliders are vital indicators of forest health. Found in tall, healthy forests, they help researchers gauge ecosystem well-being. Sadly, Australia’s largest gliding marsupial is in danger. Over the past two decades, their populations have plummeted by up to 80% due to habitat destruction from land clearing, logging, and severe bushfires fueled by climate change. https://lnkd.in/giwNg5es By donating and voting for the greater glider in this marsupial election, you can help bring attention to this amazing marsupial and support efforts to restore their populations. Your donations will also help to fund the construction of vital nesting boxes, creating safe havens for greater gliders and other endangered animals. Plus, you’ll empower WWF-Australia to continue defending their habitats from excessive forest clearing. Every donation helps protect this incredibly special animal: https://lnkd.in/g-agpFcd
Why The Greater Glider Should Be Marsupial Of The Year

#reverenceforlife #forourfriendstheanimals #volume1 #fairhope #quartet #review #christianity #christ #Jesus #mercy #love #compassion #collectiveethics #life #loveofJesus My dear friends, I offer you infra the complete Kirkus review of my book, For Our Friends the Animals: Cultivating a Reverence for Life, as well as a short snippet from the review in the citation immediately below. Of course I am flogging this book, but far more importantly let me highlight a central concept brought nicely to the fore by that snippet; namely, there exists a nexus between Christian thought and not only an empathy for animals, for the the remainder of God's creatures, but a duty to serve as their stewards through our acts of mercy and compassion. As you are aware I have a propensity for citing Paul to the Romans 8:22, and I do so once again: translation of Paul Esposito. "For we know that all creation groans together..." groans as made manifest earlier in that epistle in expectation of the coming of God's kingdom. The Kingdom will arrive at a time of God's choosing, but clearly not until mankind, by ethical and moral behavior, i.e. conferring the love of Jesus universally, has proven itself worthy. I also continue in my fondness for the writings of Albert Schweitzer: "How much effort will it take for us to get [mankind] to understand the words of Jesus, 'Blessed are the merciful,' and to realize that their responsibility includes all creatures." The words of Jesus cannot be plainer. There is no excuse for our failure to heed and implement them. The time is now. Potestas Christi urget nos! "As Echols takes readers through these reflections, culminating in an itemized list of the most prominent industries that engage in animal abuse, he regularly notes the key sentiment of Schweitzer’s work—the assertion of solidarity between humans and all other forms of life on Earth. The prose throughout this book is clear and ringingly compassionate, steadfastly drawing a one-to-one link between Christian thought and a wide-spectrum empathy for other animals."

Some call it survival of the fittest, but really it's our human nature, isn't it? Peter Levine's insight sheds light on the nature of freezing as a survival response, emphasizing that animals do not perceive it as a sign of inadequacy or weakness. Instead, it is recognized as a deeply ingrained instinct that is crucial for survival in the face of threat. Understanding freezing as a natural and adaptive response helps us reframe it not as a weakness but as a testament to our instinctual drive for self-preservation. By acknowledging and honoring this primal reaction, we can learn from the resilience of animals and embrace freezing as a vital part of our survival toolkit. #resilience #survivalinstincts #humannature #Trauma #healing #peterlevine #drpeterlevine #theembodylab #kaseandco
