It's stories like the return of scooters to Missouri State University that truly remind us why we do what we do. Seeing how our scooters can make a positive impact on campus life—providing students with convenient, sustainable transportation—motivates and encourages us every day. At the heart of our mission is the desire to make mobility easier and more accessible for everyone. When we see our scooters not just as a mode of transport, but as a tool that enhances daily life, fosters community, and supports education, it fuels our passion to keep innovating and improving. These are the stories that inspire us to continue pushing forward, ensuring that we’re not just meeting needs but exceeding expectations. Here’s to more success stories like Missouri State, and to the incredible team that makes it all possible. Great work, Kylee Floodman! https://lnkd.in/g6jhagKX

When I first started working on shared scooter planning four years ago, I thought we needed to answer 3 key questions to understand if they had value in our urban mobility systems. After a year of substantial upheaval in the industry, I think it's the right time to reflect on the answers to those questions. 1. Are they safe? 2. Are they useful? 3. What's the right operations model? We are starting to get good clarity on the first two, and the last question is a critical one right now for cities. Read on:

As batteries and motors improve, e-bikes and longboards will make the future of transportation even more electric. While e-bikes have long been a popular commuting option, electric longboards are gaining speed as another convenient way to get around. It’s hard to imagine a more relaxing way to commute than quickly commuting to get off work on a longboard that requires little effort. Small Electric skateboards are a great way to get around a college campus, enjoy at the park, embark on a thrilling adventure, or last mile commute to get off work. Electric longboards are a great way to get around a college campus or find a faster way to commute around the city. Electric longboards can be easily stored in small, out-of-the-way places at home, under your desk, or on public transportation. All-terrain electric skateboards are often referred to as electric longboards. With a longer deck that allows for greater agility and gliding capabilities, off-road electric skateboards are one of the most fun models available. Capable of handling all-terrain environments and normal road conditions. Mountain electric skateboards typically have more powerful motors and higher torque to handle steeper hills and challenging terrain. Whether traversing dirt trails, gravel roads, or rugged mountain roads, it’s exciting to venture into nature and experience the thrill of off-road e-skateboard.

On March 31, 2023, Scootershare launched in Eugene, Oregon. For me, it was the culmination and fruition of more than four years of work. In 2018 I chose to focus my master's thesis research on three case study cities (Portland, OR; San Francisco, CA; Santa Monica, CA) to assess how cities were approaching the regulation of what was then the new phenomena of shared-use e-scooters. This research resulted in a set of recommendations for scootershare regulatory best practices that I was then able to carry forward into my employment with the City of Eugene's Transportation Planning Team. As the program was taking form, I had the privilege of taking it through community and stakeholder engagement, legal administration, and service procurement. I am proud to have worked on a program that was able to increase transportation choice and active transportation trips, reduce reliance on automobiles, facilitate climate recovery through the reduction of fossil fuel consumption, and contribute to a fair and equitable transportation system. The Executive Summary shared here highlights key findings from Eugene's scootershare program, including the fact that it is estimated that 24 fewer metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions were emitted throughout the Program’s duration, equal to the annual sequestration power of 28.6 acres (roughly 21 football fields) of American forest. What have been some key highlights of scootershare programs in your city? Do they align with those seen in Eugene? #escooters #scootershare #micromobility

PART 3 In the context of family and vehicle ownership, it is worth noting that individuals without children are more predisposed to purchasing bicycles compared to those with children. Interestingly, households with only one car demonstrate the highest likelihood of engaging in bicycle purchases, suggesting a potential correlation between vehicle ownership and bicycle acquisition behavior. Additionally, in terms of commuting habits, individuals commuting within the range of 0-1 miles exemplify the highest propensity for purchasing bicycles. This detail further underscores the influence of proximity to commuting distance on bicycle acquisition decisions. #AIinBusiness #DataDrivenInsights #TechForAnalytics #BIandDataScience #SmartDataTools #NextGenAnalytics #AIMeetsBI #DataStrategy #DigitalTransformation #BusinessIntelligenceTools

Community movement to advocate for more travel options around Caboolture where more than 4 in 10 people can't drive.
Our latest Streets and People episodes are live! A/Prof Alexa Delbosc, Monash University discusses her excellent work on shared e-scooter programs. Alexa shares her passion for social and behavioural psychology, and how these fields intertwine with transport systems. The discussion delves into how shared bikes and eScooters serve low-income communities, regulatory challenges, and the impacts of these transport solutions in urban and suburban settings. Alexa also highlights the importance of advocating for lower speed limits in neighbourhoods to enhance safety and underscores the communal effort needed for transport initiatives to thrive. https://lnkd.in/g-B-muV8 Anna Gurnhill Liza Neil David Freer Land Use and Mobility Stephen Coulter #EScooters #RoadSafety #Cycling #PublicTransport #SustainableTransport #UrbanMobility #SocialPsychology #TransportResearch #ActiveTransport #BikeInfrastructure #LowerSpeedLimits #LocalGovernance #CommunityProjects #TransportAdvocacy #Caboolture #MonashUniversity #SharedMobility #TransportPolicy #TrafficEngineering #SustainableCities John Burrill answers a listener's query about road rules, specifically focusing on the legality of riding e-scooters on 60 km/h roads without footpaths in Queensland. The conversation covers John's extensive experience at TMR and redesigning Queensland driving tests. They elaborate on the implications of road centre lines, speed limits, and parking regulations. Adam, the listener, highlights inconsistencies in laws regarding pedestrian safety and scooter use on residential roads. They also discuss parking rules and the impacts of large vehicles on parking spaces. The episode emphasises the complexities and apparent biases within road rules and planning regulations, urging a call to address these discrepancies. https://lnkd.in/gBhFKh36 Michael Langdon this episode will appeal to you. #RoadRules360 #ListenerQuestions #ScooterRegulations #BikeLaws #PedestrianSafety #RoadSafety #TrafficLaws #TransportPodcast #ScooterRules #ParkingSpaces #BicycleLaws #TrafficRules #SafetyStandards #LegalAdvice #RoadSafetyAwareness #ListenerInteraction #TransportLegislation #PodcastEpisode #SafetyFirst

Researchers at Rutgers University–New Brunswick have discovered that bike lanes significantly reduce traffic speeds at high-traffic intersections. A study at a busy Jersey Shore town intersection showed a 28% reduction in maximum speeds and a 21% decrease in right-turn speeds after introducing a bike lane. This "traffic calming" effect can enhance road safety for all users, reducing the risk and severity of crashes. The findings, published in The Journal of Urban Mobility, highlight the potential of bike lanes to save lives, supporting safer streets for cyclists, drivers, and pedestrians alike. #RoadSafety #BikeLanes #TrafficCalming #RutgersResearch https://lnkd.in/e6K7mH2Q
