7 years, no itch! It's from the 1955 Marylyn movie, "The Seven Year Itch." But what's that even mean? It's that term they say about relationships hitting a rough patch after 7 years. Well, here I am, celebrating my seventh year since making the leap from private practice, and seriously, where the hell has the time gone? Recruitments not always smooth sailing, but it's always fulfilling - I couldn't imagine doing anything else! It's has changed my life for the better. Lawyers I work with will often hear me say "If it ain't broke, don't fix it," which is why I'm still here, practicing what I preach. But the flip side is just as important to me – helping candidates navigate and recognise why they are getting itchy feet and how we can fix it! So why stick around at Law Staff for so long? Simple — I love what I do and who I work with. Ask yourself, can you say the same thing about your job?

Admins make the whole damn thing run <3
I always (thought) I appreciated law firm staff, but I didn't really understand how crucial they are to everything we do until I started my own firm six years ago. Running a law firm is hard work, but teamwork makes the dream work. With that in mind, I'm super-excited that Liliana Hargreaves has joined the Book Erskine LLP team as our new Office Manager, while Kayleigh Ruggles will be moving into the role of Manager, Client Services and Business Development. Welcome, Lil, and congrats to Kayleigh on the new role!

Some takeaways from yesterday's discussion on the role of a legal chief of staff with Carol Hopperton and Stacy Lettie: The best definition I can come up with for the goal of a legal chief of staff: ensuring that their legal department is run like a business. The interplay between a legal chief of staff and their legal operations colleagues was unexpected (at least for me). We discussed things like reporting structure, division of responsibilities, and how the roles complement each other. Lawyers are interested in this role too. You don’t need a law degree to be a LCOS, but it’s a potential alternative career for some lawyers. There were also lawyers interested in learning how this role might benefit their departments. I’m grateful to everyone who joined us and especially to Carol and Stacy for their time and wisdom. If you'd like a recording of the conversation, let me know. And if you joined us, I’d love to hear your takeaways too.

Ex-Law Firm Partner | Ex-Magic Circle Lawyer | I Teach You To Grow On LinkedIn | The Lawyers’ Coach | Co-Host of More Than A Lawyer Podcast 🎙️ | LinkedIn Top Voice
One of the scariest moments in my law career was when I realised: there’s no STOP button. The hard thing about law is that it’s a pretty sink or swim environment. When I was a junior lawyer, there was a particular period where I was suddenly put on a LOT of matters. I had volunteered for some, and was designated to others, but “all the ships came in” 🚢 , at the same time. Unfortunately, the rules of the game I hadn’t yet learned were: 👉 that, if you put your hand up, you’ve already said yes... ...EVEN IF the person comes back a week or two (or three!) later and says you’ve got the job. I had unwittingly overplayed my hand: ❌ a BIG mistake. I asked my manager for help. But they said: "once you’re on it, you’re on it". “Nothing I can do”. The truth was: there were very senior Partners on the deals above them, and they didn’t want to rock the boat. (Read into this what you will; but put it this way: no one wants to appear “weak”. Law is a career where the ones who can "hack it", survive.) My boss was also (rightly or wrongly) teaching me to stand on my own two feet. So, for a few weeks, to put it lightly: I was crushed. I didn’t see the light of day. And sleep was a luxury I was not afforded. 👉 But I learned my lesson. From that day on, I: 🚫 never asked for work from too many people all at once. ↳(I would give it some time to wait out which ships would come in) 🚫 never volunteered for work on a Friday. 🚫 avoided some matters and some people at all costs. Sometimes the tidal wave would come (you couldn’t always avoid it). But these tactics saved me from burnout. So what’s this all about? Well, the point is: it shouldn’t have to be this way. But, by all accounts, it still is. The real question is: WHY? ♻️ Reshare to bring about the change we need to see. #lawyers #attorneys #womenempoweringwomen #lawfirms #leadership For more of my content, follow me, or tap the 🔔 icon on my profile: Helen Pamely

Cultivating relationships throughout my career, whether with fellow leaders, teams, young individuals at the beginning of their career journey, and internal clients progressing through the minefields of litigation has been the pinnacle in moving into this new chapter with Integrity Conflict Solutions. From these people and various circumstances, I have learned resilience, how to inspire, and the importance of trust and confidence to achieve exceptional things for everyone involved. Navigating such relationships has highlighted the true importance of maintaining professionalism, humanity and empathy throughout. We are all human. We are emotional beings. We are also smart enough to use our emotions to fuel our successes. Learning how to transform your emotions to supercharge performance and communication, especially in challenging and confronting situations, can be a superpower. Harnessing these learnings and embedding the very best culture into organisations has been a stand-out moment and has got me to where I am today. I wonder what the future of Integrity will bring…
Next up in our Meet the Team series is Co-Founder Madeleine Kelly. Madeleine’s law career spans nearly 30 years working in both private practice and in-house with a specialisation in litigation. She has adeptly guided the boards and committees of both UK and international enterprises, alongside her role as General Counsel and Company Secretary. Following a career break, Madeleine’s love for delicious cuisine came to the fore. She ticked off a bucket list goal by training at Le Cordon Bleu and subsequently hosted supper clubs across London with a fellow graduate. In her spare time, Madeleine enjoys running and has completed a fair few half marathons, whilst also renovating a couple of properties (which sometimes feels like a half marathon!). And not to forget, enjoying daily walks with her fabulous cocker spaniel, Mabel. Throughout her career, Madeleine has reflected on the number of disagreements in business that end up in conflict and too often in long-tail expensive litigation. It got her thinking of how damaging that is to business success and what could be done to prevent it. Confident that parties can be empowered to resolve differences quickly and constructively through focused communication and discussion, the vision of Integrity Conflict Solutions came to light after similar discussions with friend Helen Grimberg. You can find out more about Madeleine here: https://lnkd.in/eKzZvBnz #MeetTheTeam #LeCordonBleu #Litigation #Law
