I’ve never really considered myself a philanthropist, even though I’ve consistently supported various organizations and institutions. However, when my mom passed in 2020, my family made a very deliberate decision to honor her memory by becoming donors to the Birthright Israel Foundation. This organization, which my brother and I both benefitted from during our college years, provides free trips to Israel for young Jewish adults, helping them connect with their heritage and culture in a profoundly impactful way. As donors, we’ve had the privilege of witnessing firsthand the incredible work Birthright continues to do. Spending time with participants, educators, and staff in Israel over the past few days has been a powerful reminder of what this organization does to connect Jews from the diaspora with those in Israel. It also beautifully reinforces that, regardless of our individual situations and struggles, we are never alone.
