Hosted at Bargehouse, a raw, post-industrial space adjacent to the iconic Oxo Tower building on Southbank, Material Matters will span 5 floors with the Room 12 exhibit located on floor 3. Plant based, truly circular furniture is real. And scalable. Lance Amato offered a chance to talk about what I’ve been up to at Rhode Island School of Design Thank you, Lance! A few take aways; - I'm developing commercial grade, compostable furniture using bio-based, natural materials. - Here and now is the mantra. I leverage existing supply chains and means of production to show our hurdles are not a matter of resources, but design ingenuity and industriousness. - There is a disconnect in how long we use our objects and how long they are built to last. We use our objects for a fraction of their true life cycle. - I produce objects with natural materials, design them to last as long as we need and compost, or easily recycle, at end of use. - The Chair 3 series is proof of concept, and has been featured in Metropolis, Interior Design, Curbed, Dwell, and Stir Pad. - Plant based objects is only half a solution.
