Congratulations to the city of Elsinore for being one of just two European Green Leaf cities in 2024!🌿 Green Leaf is a European Commission award that recognises cities with less than 100,000 inhabitants for their commitment to sustainability and the green transition. With urban areas being the source of many of today’s environmental challenges, it’s instrumental that cities across Europe do their part to further the green transition. This brings us to Elsinore. What has Hamlet’s hometown done to earn this recognition? ✅ It is accelerating the energy renovation of buildings and expanding fossil-free district heating. ✅It has decided to reconstruct the sewage system to separate rainwater and wastewater to improve water quality and efficiency. ✅It works with biodiversity and sustainable land use. ✅It focuses on recycling and the principles of circular economy. ✅The city has achieved a high level of engagement of citizens and local businesses. The same commitment is true to Elsinore's meetings industry, which includes a wide range of certified venues and hotels as well as restaurants with a green focus. And equally important, the beautiful coastal city is only a 40-minute train ride from Copenhagen.🚆 Helsingør Kommune #sustainability #meetingsprof #eventprofs #greenleaf

Valencia has been named European Green Capital 2024 by the European Commission! The city earned this title due to its past and present achievements in sustainable tourism, climate neutrality, and a fair and inclusive green transition. 97% of the city's residents live within 250 meters of green urban areas. With this award, the European Commission recognizes cities with over 100,000 inhabitants that undertake projects to reduce environmental impacts and improve quality of life. Here are 8 sustainable/ecological/green highlights of Valencia: 🌱 Green spaces Through the city center, where the Turia River once flowed, winds an impressive nine-kilometer route of gardens and sports and recreational areas, now known as the Jardín del Turia. 🔬 Science and innovation Valencia's 'City of Arts and Sciences' advocates for environmental education and serves as a beacon of awareness with exhibitions dedicated to our planet's ecosystems. 🍎 Local food production Valencia is surrounded by 120 km2 of fertile farms that supply the city and the famous Central Market of Valencia with fresh vegetables and fruits year-round. 🚊 Sustainable mobility The city boasts a network of over 200 kilometers of bike lanes and an efficient metro and tram system. ☀️ Renewable energy Alternative forms of energy are being explored, such as harnessing energy from waves and utilizing solar energy from the 300 days of sunshine per year. 🌳 Natural parks Valencia is a city with two protected natural parks, and the Albufera Nature Park is one of Europe's most important wetlands due to its biodiversity. ✈️ Sustainable tourism Every year, 2.2 million tourists visit the city and are encouraged to explore the city by bike or on foot, support small businesses, and try the local gastronomy. 🐙 Ocean conservation Valencia's Oceanogràfic Foundation helps restore damaged ecosystems, rescue animals, and monitor the overall natural environment. In short, a city that keeps up with what's happening in the world! #gogreen #ecodesign #nature #sustainability #eco #sustainable #earth #architecture #sustainabledesign #design #sustainablearchitecture #ActOnClimate #deforestation #rewilding #nature #bees #sustainabledevelopment #sdgs2030 #sustainability #sustainablebusiness #ecology #cleanoceans #sustainabledevelopmentgoals #reuse #circular #biomimicry Repost: Frank Landman

Did you know that Valencia earned the European Green Capital title in 2024? Discover the reasons that have made #Valencia a benchmark in #sustainability and the perfect venue for #EUBCE2025! 🌺 🌷 🌿 Valencia has an extraordinary natural heritage. Alongside the “Jardin del Tùria” and “Parc Central”, which act as the main green lungs of the city, Valencia also offers hundreds of local parks that allow more than 70% of its citizens to have a #greenspace in less than a five-minute walk from home. The city currently has 7.5 square metres of green space per inhabitant, but it has set the objective to reach 10 square metres by 2030. 💡 Valencia has been selected by the European Commission as one of the 112 participating cities in the EU Mission for climate-neutral and smart cities. The main objective of Valencia 2030 Green and Digital Mission is to achieve #climateneutrality in the city by 2030. 🚲 With its 200km of bicycle lanes, Valencia promotes the use of public transport and active mobility, improving air quality. 🦋 🐝 In addition, the region also offers unique ecosystems such as the “Parque Natural de l’Albufera”, a natural paradise where the native flora and fauna coexist alongside farmers who cultivate local and zero-kilometre ingredients. 🌊 Exploring Angeiras: A Glimpse into Sustainable Coastal Living Today, participants of the II Transnational Forum had the unique opportunity to visit Angeiras, where we explored various facets of a community deeply rooted in sustainable fishing practices. Our visit encompassed the scenic beach, structures integral to local fishing activities, and the bustling fish and seafood market, which serves as a cornerstone of the local economy. This immersive experience provided a firsthand look at how Angeiras integrates sustainability with daily life and economic activities. Observing these practical applications helps to bridge the gap between theoretical sustainability discussions at the forum and real-world implementation, offering valuable insights into the preservation of maritime heritage and the promotion of environmentally conscious practices. The visit to Angeiras not only enriched our understanding but also inspired us to consider how these practices can be adapted and applied in other coastal communities around the world. #IIForumSEALabHaus #SustainableFishing #AngeirasVisit #BlueTourism #SeaAndSustainability Interreg Atlantic Area
