Behavioural emergencies pose risks to both patients and staff due to their unpredictability, especially in paediatric hospitals. Some children may find clinical environments and interactions with healthcare staff challenging, which can trigger and exacerbate distressed behaviour. Healthcare staff are not always trained to manage severe behavioural distress, affecting their confidence in handling these scenarios. Protective clothing can help readjust the balance; it allows healthcare staff to focus more on patient care with less concern for their own wellbeing. Key Account Manager at BitePRO®, specialising in injury prevention solutions for workplace violence and challenging behaviours like biting, scratching, and physical aggression.
Behavioral emergencies in pediatric hospitals present significant challenges due to their unpredictability, placing both patients and staff at risk. These situations are particularly complex when dealing with children, who may find the clinical environment overwhelming and interactions with healthcare professionals distressing. This distress can lead to escalated behaviors, making it difficult for healthcare teams to provide the necessary care while maintaining a safe environment. A major issue in these scenarios is that healthcare staff often lack specific training to effectively manage severe behavioral distress. Without this training, staff members may feel unprepared and anxious when faced with challenging behaviors, which can compromise both their ability to deliver care and their own safety. The stress of these situations can also impact the overall therapeutic environment, making it harder to achieve positive outcomes for the patient. One way to address this issue is through the use of protective clothing, such as that offered by BitePRO. These garments can provide a critical layer of safety, allowing healthcare staff to approach distressed patients with greater confidence. By reducing the risk of injury, protective clothing helps staff focus more on delivering compassionate and effective care, rather than worrying about their personal safety. Research shows that most pediatric medical fear and anxiety is due to unfamiliarity with medical procedures or equipment. By teaching kids with age-appropriate materials, and allowing them to learn about and process their medical care through play, we CAN prevent trauma and stop the cycle of bad medical experiences increasing future fear and anxiety. 💪 #pediatrics #pediatrichealthcare #healthcare #childlife #childlifespecialist

I’m excited to share that I have earned my "Congenital Hypothyroidism: What Every Primary Care Provider Needs to Know" from Stanford University School of Medicine. I’ve gained valuable insights into Congenital Hypothyroidism (CH) to ensure early diagnosis and effective management. CH can have significant impacts on growth and development if not treated promptly. Here are some key points to consider: Early Screening and Diagnosis: Newborn screening is essential for early detection. Confirmatory testing should follow any abnormal screening results. Treatment Initiation: Starting levothyroxine treatment as soon as possible is critical to prevent developmental delays. Monitoring and Adjustment: Regular monitoring of TSH and free T4 levels helps in adjusting the dosage to maintain optimal thyroid function. Parental Education: Educating parents about the importance of medication adherence and regular follow-ups is vital for the child’s health. #PrimaryCare #Pediatrics #CongenitalHypothyroidism #Healthcare

Recent clinical evidence shows that antibiotics are often unnecessary for children under 2 years with acute otitis media. Most cases resolve on their own, which helps minimize the risk of antibiotic resistance and avoid unnecessary side effects. Embracing this approach aligns with best practices and promotes better long-term health outcomes. #Healthcare #Pediatrics #AntibioticResistance #EvidenceBasedMedicine**

Grim news on the lowest pediatric residency selection since 1994. It was competitive in my day. We have to reform compensation. From Doximity article: …treatment and prevention of diseases in childhood is the highest yield and most cost-containing of all medical specialties. The decline in interest in pediatrics as a profession should serve as a significant warning sign to the U.S. health care system. At a time of rising education debt and inflation, the root cause of this challenge is clear: low compensation. Pediatricians make approximately 25% less than doctors who treat adults; all train for the same number of years. #pediatrics #insurancereform
