Last month I was in Baguio City in the Philippines aka 'The City of Pines' or the 'Summer Capital of the Philippines'. I was invited by Kezia Teresa Tabago, Associate Professor at the University of the Philippines Baguio (UPB) to visit and explore avenues of collaboration. Besides her academic work, Kezia works for UPB's SILBI Centre (Social Innovation Laboratory & Business Inclusion). The Centre works hard to grow a culture of innovation and sustainable development across the Cultural and Creative Industries of Baguio City and the region. SILBI supports creative individuals and organisations to boost their business competencies and enhance their work through tech & science knowledge. It helps them to strengthen their entrepreneurial skills, and makes sure they are armed with the right mindset and resources to innovate and to drive progress and change in their field. Baguio has become synonymous with creativity. In 2017 it was designated a "UNESCO Creative City" - the first Philippine City to be vested with the distinct honor. During the days I was there I met with Academics, Researchers, Leaders of Gov. agencies, Policymakers, an Innovation Consortium, and a Youth Innovation Hub. All of them seem to have creativity coming out of their pores. These organisations exemplify creative courage. They have the guts to marry tradition with progress, to fuse artistry with entrepreneurship, to encourage innovations in the city’s major crafts and folk art traditions, and to inspire a new generation of craftsmen & women and folk artists to take up creativity as serious business. All of this roots back to the City's ability to make a paradigm shift. From seeing the arts as 'something that needs its support' to seeing it as 'something that supports its needs' - socially and economically. Baguio's had set an audacious goal to become a cen­ter for innov­a­tion for traditional/indigenous arts & craft. A true recognition of the impact artists and artis­ans have on the city’s eco­nomic performance. Celebrating #KartiniDay: From Parade to Power In Indonesia, we usually celebrate Kartini Day on April 21. Raden Adjeng Kartini was an icon of women's rights, education, and empowerment during the Dutch colonialism era. Kartini's unwavering fight against societal limitations remains an enduring inspiration for Indonesian women. When I was in elementary school, Kartini Day meant parades and dressing in beautiful traditional clothing. Indeed, it was a time for joyous celebrations, yet I didn't fully grasp the depth of Kartini Day's spirit. However, as I matured, Kartini Day now holds a deep personal significance. As someone who grew up in an environment where #patriarchy is no stranger and survived domestic and financial abuse, Kartini's courage to break barriers resonates even more powerfully now. So, on this special day, as a woman myself, I want to take a moment to remember how I've found my own strength within the #crypto and #Web3 space. In a previous post, I shared my experience surviving domestic and financial abuse. During that dark time, crypto and stock #investment became a lifeline for me to regain financial control. #Swingtrading and #staking became tools that helped me to earn extra money to survive. Little did I know that these same things would open the door to an unexpected and fulfilling career in Web3, even placing me in a #leadership role—a possibility I had never dared dream of before. Reflecting on this journey, I've seen firsthand how the Web3 industry prioritizes contribution over gender. Here, I've found a space where my work is recognized and valued—a principle that deeply aligns with my belief that capabilities, not gender, should define one's potential. A Week of Milestones and Personal Achievements As we step into the Eid holidays in Malaysia, I wanted to share some of the key milestones and progress from this past week— It's been a mix of professional wins and personal projects that are leading to some exciting times ahead. This week was huge for one of my projects, HustlersLabs. Notably, our collaboration with the Internet Computer Protocol (ICP) stands out. This alliance is designed to enhance our technological framework, directly benefiting our community and investors. And also solidifying ties with two influential launchpads ensures a richer, more dynamic ecosystem for everyone involved. Another highlight of the week was welcoming a European bank into our ecosystem, one eager to explore and expand into the Web3 realm. Amid these developments, our community is what keeps us going. It's been amazing to see the engagement and enthusiasm continue to thrive— It's business as usual, but our family of thinkers and doers keeps getting bigger. On a more personal note, I've taken a step towards diversifying my investment portfolio By acquiring a plot of land dedicated to agriculture, focusing on durian plantation. This venture is not just an investment in the land, but in sustainable practices and the future of agriculture. There's more on the horizon. We're welcoming new clients to our agency and adding more features to our NFT collection. We're also starting a newsletter to make Web3 easy for anyone interested. I've never been more committed to bringing new ideas to life, supporting our community, and focusing on sustainable growth. Recently, me and few of my friends (Naufal Hakim, Daffa Randika, and Muhammad Nur Bijak Bestari) participated in a HackFest Indonesia 2024 which is a hackathon event held by GDSC Indonesia. So, in this event we are competing against 650++ teams from universities all around Indonesia. This event takes the SDG's Goals as the main problem. Unfortunately, we didn't make it to the top 20 to step up from the next stage. But to be honest, I think our concept is pretty solid and even when we aren't successfully passed this stage. I'm still looking forward to keep developing this platform we're building. So, the name is MAYA a short of "Mahasiswa Berkarya". The background of this concept was probably a problem that every student has ever faced at some point. We build this platform to solve the problem of looking for a partner/teammate to build a project or teammate to participate in a competition. Which is exactly the problem me and Naufal Hakim faced when we try to build a team for this HackFest. The other reason that backed our concept for this is that we find a lot of students from our university struggling to find teammate to join PKM (Pekan Kreativitas Mahasiswa) on the X (formerly Twitter) platform through Menfess. Then we thought why isn't there any platform that make us (students with high motivation to grow) easy to find opportunities? So, we made a decision that we want to make student more competitive for searching opportunities not only for professional work but also to grow inside campus. Exactly, this platform is very similar to job searching platforms. Where company can post a job openings and job seeker can apply for the posted job position. Here students can post their idea/competition they want to compete in, and students can also make a request to join posted projects/teams. Not only that, but for the further goals we also want to make Students Organization can also look for a candidate in this platform. Therefore, there will be a lot more opportunities available to the highly motivated students to not only learn academic, but also grow competitive behavior to success. I think that's it from me. But I really can't wait to make it available so that students will no longer have to face a hard time finding opportunities to grow.
