One of the most gratifying parts of my time at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology was the opportunity to work with Professor Bob Pozen while researching and writing two new essays for his course “Managing Innovation in Financial Institutions”. Both of the essays, “A Primer on the Stablecoin Industry” and “An Analysis of Stablecoin Regulation Internationally”, focus on introducing students to the stablecoin industry and the regulatory frameworks needed to evaluate this new asset category. As stablecoin regulation evolves (painfully slowly) in the U.S. Congress, I believe it is important for everyone, including those who don’t work in the space, to understand this unique type of crypto asset and how it can (and should) be regulated while safeguarding innovation in the industry. Hopefully, by sharing both papers, I will be contributing to productive conversations on the wider role of stablecoins. Who voted for the Ethereum move from Proof Of Work to Proof Of Stake? Do you know anyone that did? I only ask because I didn’t, don’t know of anyone that did, and I don’t know of anyone that knows someone that did. I do know that cofounders Joseph Lubin and Vitalik Buterin did. I know their team did… “Experts” say decision making in systems like Ethereum involve a distributed and consensus driven approach rather than individual voting. So who controls the consensus and how the power is distributed? Surely just by holding ETH and contributing to its liquidity gives every HODLer some say in the direction it goes next. So how does the process look of getting everyone to agree that it was a good idea to move from one consensus mechanism to another and how can we sign up to change it again? Why can’t we vote with our Ethereum on our wallets instead of our Centralized communities? How do we confirm the voting process isn’t rigged? Price Go Up can’t always be the response to this question right?

I think Token-based governance should be the most exciting part of crypto for token engineers. The push for decentralization is making crypto projects find new ways to make decisions, using ideas from political science and social choice. Tokens give us the chance to create new systems for on-chain voting and global organizations. How well we use this chance will decide if DAOs will last. Today, besides problems like low voter turnout and hacks, the main challenge is finding the right token-based governance models for different decisions.

Bitcoin remains one of the most widely misunderstood topics in the financial services industry, and most advisors are too lazy to take on the task of educating themselves. I believe that clients suffer as a consequence. Here's my attempt to describe, very briefly, what Bitcoin is and what problems it solves.
