As some may know, I left my 20+ year career at Microsoft specifically to join the phenomenal rocketship of Databricks. After listening to these new ideas and innovation as part of the Women Leaders In Data & AI (WLDA) Ventures cohort yesterday, in my opinion there are things that have contributed to Databricks’ success to date: 1. Know your mission. The Databricks mission is to solve the world’s toughest data problems. This is evidenced by the work done by the brilliant talent across the company. Every person at Databricks that I have met and worked with is driven and passionate about creating products and solutions to help our customers and partners solve very, very complex issues from ideation to execution 2. Be grounded in your principles. For Databricks, this is Open, Simple, Cost effective. Every innovation by Databricks over the past decade has been focused on these principles. Don’t lock organizations into proprietary systems where they can’t respond to the pace of technology and innovation (did I mention GenAI here?). Do it in a way that reduces technical debt and complexity. And constantly drive for better cost performance while taking advantage of new cloud efficiencies. 3. Be agile and continue to innovate. From Spark to the Lakehouse to the Data Intelligence Platform, Databricks constantly pushes the boundaries at an amazing pace.
