🔍 Critical Reflection on Research: Key to Growth and Insight Critical reflection is essential in research—it helps us understand not just what we did, but why and how. Here’s how to approach it: 1️⃣ Assess Your Methods: What worked well? What could be improved? 2️⃣ Analyze Findings: How do the results align with your expectations or existing knowledge? 3️⃣ Identify Bias: Were there any assumptions or limitations that influenced your work? 4️⃣ Consider Impact: What does your research contribute to the field or practice? Reflection transforms research into a learning experience, driving continuous improvement. Ready to take your research to the next level? Pablo Munoz is the academic at Durham University Business School who saw the gap in research. Existing research knew that business owners were more likely to get depression, but nothing had been done to find out why. That research then became the MIND Your Business Ltd intervention programme. Here he is talking about how impact is his why - the good that academics can make in the world. And how the output of his research aims to help business owners grow on their own terms. https://lnkd.in/e_uw2j7D Jase Smith

🎉 BOOK ALERT! And MEET THE AUTHOR who wrote it!🎉 🔵 Do you ever wonder why we embrace ideas and concepts that are not supported by research? 🔵 Or, why we accept research findings that are not well done? 🔵 Or, why we sometimes struggle to see the nuance in a situation or an idea? 🔵Would you like to explore smarter ways for us to question the statements and declarations we see on LinkedIn, our classes, the news, and more? Then... 📣 Join us on July 15 for a special Meet the Author session with Alex Edmans!! During this session, he will present his book "May Contain Lies: How Stories, Statistics, and Studies Exploit our Biases- and What We Can Do About It." I love this book! And have been recommending it, gifting it, and assigning it ever since it came out a couple months ago. Alex is Professor of Finance at London Business School, has a PhD from MIT as a Fulbright Scholar, and was previously a tenured professor at Wharton. He was also an investment banker at Morgan Stanley. 💡 In his book, Alex shares a wonderful explanation of how our biases affect research, how we read research, how we avoid and ignore the research, and more. He delves into confirmation bias and black and white thinking (in contrast to exploring the aforementioned nuance). What I love about Edmans’ approach is he is three dimensional. We get to explore through highly readable and accessible chapters, the impacts of bias from our perspective as readers, as well as the perspectives from the researchers. Alex shares how these biases fester— and how they are also necessary (modeling his point about nuance). We go on a journey exploring the concept of data, evidence, and evidence as proof. We get to explore that oldie— causation versus correlation. And so, so much more! 🚀LDA is very much looking forward to this special conversation with Alex Edmans, facilitated by Dr. Nigel Paine and me! ➡️ Join us : https://lnkd.in/gn2MsunH 📍Meet the Author - Alex Edmans 💻 Live online session on Zoom 📆 Monday, July 15 🕕 From 10h00 to 11h00 ET - NY Time 💸 Free session Don't be square! Be there! 😁 The session will be recorded and available post session for all to see. #learninganddevelopment #research #misinformation #evidenceinformed

Have you ever wondered what the results would look like if a large number of research teams worldwide investigated the same research questions using the same dataset? In our new publication “Non-Standard Errors”, forthcoming in the Journal of Finance, we explore this exact question. Thanks to the participation of over 300 researchers in 164 teams from all around the world, we are able to shed light on the genesis, covariates, and magnitudes of 𝘯𝘰𝘯-𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘢𝘳𝘥 𝘦𝘳𝘳𝘰𝘳𝘴: the variation in results due to different analysis paths chosen by researchers. We indeed detect substantial variation across research teams, which, interestingly, replicates in size in a multiverse analysis with just a few key forks. Encouragingly, our study also shows that peer feedback significantly reduces non-standard errors, highlighting the importance and value of academic exchange. A big thanks also goes to my colleagues Albert J. Menkveld, Anna Dreber, Felix Holzmeister, Juergen Huber, Magnus Johannesson, Sebastian Neusüß, Michael Kirchler, and Utz Weitzel for jointly coordinating the project.
