Alright, serious question—what’s the deal with unpaid internships? I get it, experience is valuable, but asking someone to work full-time with zero pay feels... off, doesn’t it? It’s one thing to offer a learning environment where interns gain real skills, but expecting them to handle real responsibilities without any monetary compensation? That’s asking too much. After all, time and effort have value, and interns—often students—have bills to pay, too. The benefits should go both ways, right? I’ve seen too many talented people put in long hours only to walk away with “exposure.” Isn’t it time we rethink this model? Paid internships not only show respect for people’s time but also build a healthier, more balanced professional environment. Let’s advocate for fairer opportunities—because dedication deserves compensation. What do ya'll think about this? #internships #unpaidinternship #hiring #coop #marketing

INC. outlines the practical reasons for doing away with unpaid internships; however interns are generally content with minimal pay if they gain valuable experience, connections, and recommendations. https://buff.ly/3AAvl7F #paidinternship #internship #hiring #hr

I love September because school starts up again, and we are blessed to be able to work with some of the most incredible interns! Interns are lovely because they are hungry and willing to learn. Some of our greatest employees started as interns. Always make sure to treat them with a lot of patience and attention. Throw a pizza party for them once in a while! Creating an open and healthy work environment for interns will make them more inclined to stay with you. They make for really valuable and well-trained employees, so treat them with care.🤍 #interns #collegeinternship #mediainternship #videoediting #training #communicationmajor #businessmajor #marketingmajor #multimedia

"The Case for Paid Internships: Why It's Time to Rethink the Unpaid Model" As we navigate the ever-changing landscape of work and education, it's essential that we prioritize fairness, equity, and opportunity. One crucial step towards achieving this is recognizing the importance of paid internships. Unpaid internships can be a barrier to entry for many students, particularly those from low-income backgrounds. By not providing a stipend or salary, we're essentially saying that only those who can afford to work for free can gain valuable experience and build their professional networks. Paid internships, on the other hand, offer a range of benefits, including: - Equal access to opportunities, regardless of financial means - Valuable work experience and skills development - A chance to build professional networks and make meaningful connections - A stipend or salary to support living expenses during the internship By paying interns, we're not only doing the right thing, but we're also investing in the future of our industries and communities. So, let's make a commitment to prioritize paid internships and create a more inclusive, equitable, and opportunity-rich environment for all. #PaidInternships #Fairness #Equity #Opportunity #InternshipReform

Unpaid should be the rule , paid must be the exception 💰💵💸 IoTIoT.in We have hired from IIT B , IIT D CS , even non IITians and paid 30-50k per month irrespective of the college as long as there was merit and work ethic in student. We also used to train free , buy them tools , boards etc for their project ideas and tried to create a supportive environment for their growth . How and why did I entirely reverse my position after 5 years ? After having dealt with over 5000 applications . I would now generalize that While putting out the internship . Spell out clearly what they will learn , set expectations clearly on work ethic and say it is unpaid and stick to it , it is unpaid and may get paid but chances are low . Set expectations really really low . If they still come in, those are either the emotionally charged ones ,will fade in few days or going to be your best hires . Pay them only if they are truly deserving . In my experience a lot are out for certificates and want to just do an internship like a college submission . Submit something last minute for the sake of it ..This they think is some work .. actually it is byte shit that your team spends time to review and need to clean from your internal systems . For 1 good intern there are 50 who will fake it(or confused themselves) waste organization's resources and time so need strong counter measures to save yourself and organization from those time wasters and eliminate them. Practically in super populated region like India hiring should always be an elimination strategy and not a selection strategy. At 2 levels Interns need improvement: 1)Sense of work ethic ,basic professionalism and integrity (this one usually IITians dont have so much of a problem they show some discipline, as you go lower in merit it is extremely bad ) 2)Skills to do even a few simple things meaningful and well. Even if 1 is exhibited well it is a not bad hire, can take the responsibility to train in industry skills but honestly over time realized even basic level 1 expectations are not met . They come with multiple commitments already and no clear time allocation on when would they work on internship. They just want to do it all . It is just another ‘ho jayega ‘ activity and do a last minute juggad submission and get done with it mindset largely . Does this deserve pay ? Those asking a blanket rule to reward every non serious candidate despite the fact that every student knows well in a class only 5% students are serious, are either socialists or just inexperienced like I was when I started this .
Really don’t understand why any company would hire for unpaid internships. At least pay a few thousand rupees (depending on the work) - it would mean a lot to a 2nd year/3rd year student. It’s not like some 10-20-50k rupees mean a lot to companies and interns add more value than that. Penny pinching behaviour.

Unpaid internships: where you get the experience of a lifetime... and the pay of a packet of air in chips. 😅 7 hours a day, Monday to Saturday, for 4 months? Sounds like I’m applying for a free subscription to Stress! On a serious note, internships are meant to be about learning and growing, but shouldn’t the effort deserve a little appreciation (and compensation)? Just a thought for all the organizations out there. Let’s build workplaces that value talent, time, and effort! P.S. To all my fellow unpaid interns, you're doing amazing. Keep learning, and your hard work will pay off (literally, someday!) #InternLife #UnpaidInternships #WorkLifeBalance #RespectTalent #CareerGrowth #InternshipJourney #FutureReady

It’s disappointing to see some companies still operating with outdated practices, such as offering unpaid internships while assigning responsibilities that typically require 2–3 years of professional experience. This approach undervalues talent and discourages growth in the industry.

Is your company hiring interns this summer? Are they incredible talent that you’ve spent countless hours nurturing and priming to join your company? Are these students and younger professionals the kind of talent you want to join full time? If you answered yes to any of these (and especially if you said yes to all of them), then you need to consider career development programs like the ones Crew has built and is deploying for interns across corporate America as we speak. This generation of soon to be graduates (both undergrad and grad student programs) demands careworn development opportunities and Crew can help you make your internship experience the perfect springboard to full time employment.
