We're looking for someone with experience across a React/Typescript/Next.js/Tailwind stack to help us architect and implement our frontend codebase. I'm hoping for a few things from applicants: 1. Autonomy. We're a growing team. We need people to be able to share the load in terms of maintenance tasks and feature development. That capacity has to be multi-talented and self-directed. If you already know how to discuss technical requirements, give feedback to product teams, write technical documentation, perform and receive code reviews, and manage personal tasks, then you might be the person that we're looking for. 2. Experience. We want people who have used certain technologies long enough to have opinions on the right and wrong ways to do things. We want people who've already found some of the sharp edges or gone underneath the surface of the tools that they're using. We thrive on pairing and discussion. If you like talking code as much as we do and have the knowledge and experience to help shape our technical roadmap, I'd like to talk to you. 3. Curiosity. Our team is small enough that we often need to wear many hats. I don't need someone who is an expert on CI/CD systems to join me. But I would like to see someone interested enough in the Software Development Lifecycle that they want to learn and have their hand in it. We've already set up our infrastructure, but I'd love to work with someone who's actively interested in network topologies and willing to share that knowledge. We write our own SQL queries, so I hope for someone that can author rudimentary queries but with the desire to improve. If you've ever used a React hook and wondered "How does `useState` actually work?", then I'd like to explore it with you. In return, I'm happy to commit to supporting our future engineer so that they grow in their role with us. I want this to be an excellent opportunity to do work that you can be proud of while also growing your knowledge of modern web apps and networks in both breadth and depth. *** I also don't want anyone to read the job description and immediately self-select out of it because they don't meet all of the requirements. I don't want a lot of people who would otherwise be wonderful additions to my team decide not to apply because they use Vue instead of React or they aren't confident in their AWS expertise. If you're reading this and on the fence, I ask that you are both realistic and generous to yourself. https://lnkd.in/erhqZ2ix

Reaching out specifically to my network (no recruiters please), because we're looking to hire full stack engineers into Float. We're building a company based on the following immutable first principles... DESIGN LED Literally everything we do is permeated by design thinking, not “just” numbers. We trust our gut and obsess over details. We ship fast and iterate by talking directly to users. SMALL TEAMS We believe small focused teams lead to improved trust, greater ownership and an increased opportunity for innovation — small teams build and “collaborate better”. LESS FUSS We strive for simplicity — less is more. If you're looking to get very early into an exciting company and you're a senior full stack engineer based in EU/UK, we'd love to chat. https://lnkd.in/dWeMeZre

I integrate people, process, and technology. Cybersecurity Workforce | SMB Cybersecurity | Software Requirements | Data Integration | Speaker | Writer | Systems Thinker
Choose your new team member. You're adding a new position to a tech team. Mid-range software developer, modern stack. Your team has built and established guidelines and documentation around how to code successfully in that stack. What do you prefer? A) An expert in modern dev, including in your preferred language. 5+ years of total experience. B) An expert in modern dev, language doesn't matter. 5+ years of total experience. C) A dabbler in modern dev with over 10+ years of experience, more traditional full stack dev. D) Someone who's got aptitude and attitude and is a true junior you can mold to your system. A, B, and C will cost roughly the same. Team dynamic with each option changes. D will be 25% less to start. Curious what you think and why. And thanks to the business people for humoring me on this. You can weigh in, too - this issue translates into HR and other teams. I'll add my opinion later today in the comments. #softwaredevelopment #hiring #software

Client: "We've been searching for this Software Engineer for 4-months" Me: Interesting- why could this be? Client: "We want them to come onsite everyday and we're located 1.5hrs outside of Berlin" "Oh and they need to have worked with JavaScript, Python, .net, C#, Java and be good at DevOps" "And speak German!" Me: Ok, have you considered this person may not exist? It's highly likely that if you've been searching for someone for a SE position for longer than 4 weeks there could be a problem with your requirements. With this client I initially advised best course of action is to pinpoint the tech they will work with on a daily basis and search for these people. If your office is located outside of a major city or hard to travel to consider searching for candidates to work on a remote basis or who could come to the office on a less frequent basis. Most of the time if your struggling to hire you have to look internally and see what could be going wrong, whether it be the processes, requirements, salary or work location. Devs- Let me know some of the wild requirements you have seen when job searching ⬇️ #techhiring #realisticexpectations #germanjobs

Award winning CISO, top-rated keynote speaker, bestselling author, but really just trying to leave the world more secure than how I found it. Feel free to Connect instead of just Follow.
I am going to say that this type of stuff is almost sweet revenge for the AI assisted screening that recruiters are doing. The reality is that the use of ATS is automatically eliminating many outstanding candidates, because few people know how to play the system. Recruiters are getting applicants that figured out how to play the game, and not know about #cybersecurity. So, if the result is that recruiters are now getting applicants who play the AI game themselves, it serves them right for automating away the outstanding professionals they could be getting. #cyberjobs
Sr. Full Stack Engineer, friends, I need YOUR help! I've been duped!! 🤦♀️ While sourcing for a Sr. Full Stack Engineer, I have been inundated by fake candidates. It took me a handful of virtual phone screens to find the similarities. These people all read from a script (I'm assuming the script is AI generated based on the questions I ask). What really made reality click for me is when I asked one candidate what it was like to go to XYZ college, and he started reading the "about page" for that particular college. Just as an example: "The University of Southern California is a private research university in Los Angeles, California, United States. Founded in 1880 by Robert Maclay Widney, it is the oldest private research university in California." - He read something similar to this, WORD FOR WORD. 🙇♀️ So, for the Sr. Full Stack Engineers out there who are looking for work, and who are REAL: How can I find you among the thousands of fakes? I thought about requiring a video submittal with each application, but figured that would deter good candidates. *Sigh Please comment below with your ideas, and help me out. 🙏 *And if you're a recruiting agency, NO, I'm not ready to give up and partner with a firm on this. 😉
