𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗿-𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰-𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀? The General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTC Scotland) found the answer by prioritising the needs of teachers and registrants at every step of their digital transformation journey. Faced with aging digital products and growing frustration among users, GTC Scotland partnered with BJSS and Sparck to launch the 'Customer Digital Experience' project in February 2024. Over an 8-week discovery phase, we collaborated closely with the GTC Scotland digital team, taking a design-thinking approach to modernise their registrant journey. From defining pain points to creating a product design roadmap, our focus remained clear: building inclusive, reliable, and seamless digital experiences for users. 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗱: ✅ Consolidating outdated systems into a single, streamlined platform. ✅ Designing around user needs through detailed research. ✅ Aligning the service with GTC Scotland’s trusted teaching brand. The result? A solid foundation for sustainable and impactful digital transformation. 📢 “Working with BJSS has given us the best possible start to our project, ensuring we have our users at the centre of our approach,” says Lee Robertson, Head of Digital at GTC Scotland. User-centered design (UCD) is key to crafting effective policies, as highlighted at the Government Transformation Expo's Citizen Experience Summit. NEC Digital Studio's reflections emphasise the need to involve users early, address under-awareness of UCD among senior decision-makers, and focus on practical, user-driven solutions to avoid flawed policies. Building UCD into upstream thinking ensures inclusive, impactful, and functional strategies. Explore how we can advance this critical approach to policymaking here: https://lnkd.in/eW77vUn8

Just finished this course from the University of Sydney, "Innovation Through Design: Think, Make, Break, Repeat", a very insightful course on the design process, from learning about context (the "think" part), building prototypes as tangible representations (the "make" part) and testing potential solutions (the "break" part), and not just for digital products, but for our everyday designs too. I'd recommend everyone to check it out, especially if you're curious about design and translating the processes and tools of design thinking into innovative opportunities. https://lnkd.in/edzGrTpU

When was the last time you were in this kind of discussion? - “We must add feature X, everyone has it.” - “No, it’s clear that users will use feature Y.” - “I’m not sure we can build X or Y in time.” Whether you’ve been in these debates or will be soon—across product, design, business, or any other role—join me this Thursday (Sep 26) in Athens for a 3-hour Product Workshop hosted by SAE Athens. We’ll dive into practical methods to push digital products forward. We’ll tackle real problems, prioritize, and make decisions as a group. There are only a few seats available (check the comments for the registration link)

Besides the full proceedings of the DGTF conference 2024 that my colleagues Dr. Andrea Augsten and Axel Vogelsang and I just recently published, I would like to draw special attention to our contribution (both in german and english): 🌟 Introduction: What Could Possibly Go Wrong?🌟 Design has the power to shape the world, but at what cost? In a time when design is hailed as both a subtle tool for manipulation and a driver of societal transformation, how do we reconcile its dual nature? From TikTok's "addictive design" to EU discussions on sustainability, design is credited with immense influence—yet its impact remains difficult to measure. As "wicked problems" challenge traditional notions of problem-solving, how do designers balance creativity, responsibility, and collaboration to make meaningful, lasting change? Our new article—What Could Possibly Go Wrong? - Impact and Consequences in Design—dives deep into these questions. Join us as we explore: 🔍 The evolving role of design as an agent of change. 📏 The complexities of measuring design’s impact. 🌍 The potential of interdisciplinary approaches to address global challenges. As designers and researchers, we stand at a crossroads: Will design reinforce the status quo or pave the way for equitable, sustainable transformation? Let’s rethink the boundaries of our discipline, collaborate across fields, and embrace design’s potential to drive meaningful change. 📖 Dive deeper into these questions in our article and then continue to read the whole publication ;-) DOI (DE version) 10.25368/2024.DGTF.001 DOI (EN version) 10.25368/2024.DGTF.001.en #DesignResearch #SocialInnovation #ImpactMeasurement #WickedProblems #AgentOfChange
