The North American F-107A 'Ultra Sabre' was an experimental USAF tactical fighter-bomber prototype based on the successful F-100 Super Sabre design. Developed by North American Aviation, the F-107A was an attempt to create an advanced, all-weather fighter-bomber capable of delivering nuclear weapons. On September 10, 1956, North American test pilot Joel Robert Baker took the F-107A prototype on its maiden flight, reaching a top speed of Mach 1.03. This historic event marked a significant milestone in the aircraft's development, demonstrating its ability to exceed the speed of sound.The F-107A featured a distinctive delta wing configuration and an internal weapons bay, allowing it to carry a nuclear weapon or conventional bombs. Really pleased to be finally sharing this, having extended a year in post to see it through to delivery and subsequent trials. This was part of an internally developed programme within RETDU that looked to address the ever growing field power deficit, facilitated and only made possible by cutting edge UK technology and industry collaboration. For background and not fully covered in the video, I offer the following introduction to the Fitted For Energy concept: With a focus on Survivability and Sustainability on the battlefield and linking into Pj WAVELL & VELOCITY, the Fitted For Energy (FFE) concept, centres around a vehicle agnostic modification that could be made to our current vehicle fleet to enable significant power generation. This could be for immediate export to sustain a specific power hungry capability, or via stored energy, to quietly sustain a dispersed command post or recharge a light drone fleet over several days. Crucially it removes the need to transport a separate diesel generator for field power and provides a hybridised approach to power management and distribution. This in turn enables the ability to hide from Enemy sensors looking to exploit both thermal and audible signatures normally associated with power generation. The system itself is configured to generate and export over 8kW with the engine at idle whilst Internally paired with an onboard power management system for direct export of 230v @32Amps or 12/28VDC, or to maintain the integrated battery system that can deliver a further 8kWh (Kilowatt hours) of silent energy; enough to sustain an average UK household for 24 hours. With further tuning, the system has the potential to exceed 10kW, with a silent kWh capability only limited by battery size and chemistry as technology develops. In broad handfuls, this system which has the same footprint and form factor as a Light Field Generator (LFG) but can generate and store 4x the power and can reduce overall fuel consumption by using efficient stored energy to meet a given demand. For further comparison this exceeds the in-service 6.5kW VTEG generator’s performance by a factor of 1.2 but at only 20% of the 480kg weight. Additionally this also matches the low end of the large trailer mounted FEPS generator platform, that requires a MAN SV to tow it around the battlefield. The FFE concept is not the single answer to the growing power deficit on the battlefield as more and more technology is fielded, but it is one part of a layered approach to address the issue whilst other technologies mature and a truly viable alternative to diesel is developed. All findings and observations will be directed to inform the Manoeuvre Power and Light Mobility Platform Programmes within Army Headquarters. The Rafale M, manufactured by Dassault Aviation, is a versatile, single-seat aircraft capable of performing a range of missions including air defense, nuclear deterrence, deep strikes, and reconnaissance. India and France will start contract negotiations for the Rs 50,000 crore deal for 26 Rafale Marine fighter jets this week. Earlier, the government has approved the acquisition of Rafale Marine fighter jets from France to equip its indigenous aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant. Rafale Marine Cost and Capabilities The Rafale Marine, or Rafale M, was chosen over the American F/A-18 Super Hornets after rigorous testing at the shore-based test facility in Goa. One of the key advantages of selecting the Rafale M is its compatibility with the Indian Air Force's existing Rafale fleet. This commonality is expected to reduce costs related to spares and maintenance, as both aircraft share about 80 per cent of their components. The primary distinction between the two versions lies in the reinforced nose and landing gears of the Rafale M, designed to handle the demanding conditions of aircraft carrier.
