If you want to be a cool kid in the gym, put your plates on backward. Somebody once told me that this is so you could see the weight no matter where you were in the gym (with kilo plates). This never made complete sense to me, so I like this reason better. There's a lip on the inside of the plate, and putting them on backward makes it easier to take them on and off.
