"A broken immigration system or a system broken by US politics and incompetence"? The system can only be as good as the humans creating the laws, regulations, administering policy and processing the cases. Incompetent or unmotivated workers, political interference, antiquated laws, and presidential executive orders substituting Congress-passed laws creates an unpredictable challenging situation. The last time we had comprehensive immigration reform with a path to legalization and citizenship was under Ronald Reagan. There was no major immigration law passed since that time just little stopgap measures here and there combined with executive orders that even president Obama himself called unconstitutional even though he made such orders and for good reason as to DACA but DACA should have been a law But Congress failed to pass it into law... So president Obama like a king made an executive order (but we do not live under a king or Queen here in the United States) but maybe we should bring back the British Crown lol.... :) that's how badly things are functioning.. In terms of the "democratic process". 😀 We have US employers and hard working motivated people from all over the world waiting patiently in line. But the numerical limitations are antiquated resulting in a situation where we have people going through the legal process properly and legally and they're subject to a 15 to 20 year delay. #immigration #politics #government #lawmaking

An absolute inhuman and abhorant executive order from an administration that has already lost many young voters from my generation with their foreign policies in the Middle East. No human being is illegal and maybe instead of enacting Trump era border policies we should be asking ourselves why so many different children, adults, and families are choosing to make the dangerous stretch from their home countries to the United States and making citizenship more accessible to the 21st century. I keep hearing from many people in the institutions I work within that it’s because of the Republicans in Congress that any meaningful immigration reform is limited and dead on arrival in either chamber. However, perhaps enacting an executive order to grant work permits to all long term undocumented immigrants is a better usage of the federal executive branch than enacting a policy that will only hurt and in danger human beings who are simply trying to obtain new opportunities, escape poor living conditions, or find loved ones they are longing to reconnect with. If President Biden is seeking the votes from Gen Z demographics this November he needs to do better than this. Highly critical and disgusted with this choice.
Biden’s border move infuriated progressives. He’s trying to fix that.

Immigration Super Lawyer Brad Bernstein breaks down the key differences in immigration policies between Democrats and Republicans. He explains that Republicans tend to focus on stricter border enforcement and cracking down on illegal immigration, while Democrats generally push for a pathway to U.S. citizenship for undocumented immigrants already in the country. Ultimately, which party is seen as doing a “better job” depends on individual perspectives and what immigration policies are most important to each person. See my latest blog analyzing how Texas has been losing on standing when challenging Biden's immigration policies such as the CHNV humanitarian parole program and prosecutorial discretion, and why Biden should be getting bolder on executive actions to shape our immigration policies in the face of Congressional inaction!
As Texas Has Been Smacked Down Twice for Lack of Standing in Challenges to Federal Immigration Policies, Biden Should Get Even Bolder in Reforming Our Immigration System Through Executive Actions

KIND President Wendy Young released a statement on the Senate’s bipartisan Emergency National Security Supplemental Appropriations Act. The Senate's bipartisan immigration effort shows collaboration is possible. Yet, it has limitations, especially in safeguarding Dreamers and providing essential protections for vulnerable populations. We commend bipartisan recognition of unaccompanied children's rights, including access to U.S. territory and legal counsel. This legislative step prioritizes protection for unaccompanied children above politics, setting a model for future immigration reforms. There is an urgent need for continued progress and consideration of broader reforms. Our full statement: https://lnkd.in/ev7tjbu2

New Orleans immigrants’ rights advocates say that a bill in the Louisiana State Legislature aiming to outlaw. so-called “sanctuary cities” risks further straining already-tense relations between local law enforcement and immigrant communities in the city. And legal experts say the bill, if passed, would conflict with federal court orders restricting the New Orleans Police Department and Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office from directly participating in federal immigration enforcement. Late last month, the state Senate voted 26-11 to approve Senate Bill 208, sponsored by Sen. Blake Miguez, R-New Iberia. The bill would ban parishes and municipalities from adopting “sanctuary policies” meant to prohibit local law enforcement officials from investigating suspected civil immigration violations on behalf of federal agencies. The bill is now awaiting debate in the state House of Representatives. Read more below

🇺🇸🚫 #Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds has signed a law allowing local law enforcement to arrest some undocumented immigrants and order their deportation, challenging federal authority on immigration. Senate File 2340 criminalizes presence in Iowa for previously deported individuals, effective July. Reynolds criticized President Biden's immigration policies, stating the bill enables Iowa law enforcement to enforce existing immigration laws. Iowa joins Texas in granting state officials immigration enforcement powers, a move criticized by civil rights groups as unconstitutional. Reynolds' stance contrasts targeting immigrants within her state, where just 5.3% are foreign-born, with undocumented immigrants comprising 1.1%. The law mirrors Arizona's failed attempt to defy federal immigration powers. #PowersLawGroup #Immigration #BreakingNews #USimmigration
