Do great architectural masterpieces, museums, galleries and free flowing gardens inspire students to learn better? Below is the famous quad of Newcastle University, UK. Even after centuries, it inspires every faculty and student and visitor. My every experiment at Shoolini University also indicates the same. After all, are we universities not in the profession of inspiration - to inspire our students to break the norm of mediocrity. Every convocation pic of every graduating student I know has a pic of the most inspiring university building in the background. Agree? So why cant universities make sure that every building we build is a masterpiece? Why can’t every inch of space in our universities be spattered with inspiring gardens, museums, art galleries, cafes? This publication documents the GHETTO exhibition, which was displayed at the Museum of Vancouver between August 23, 2023 and January 1, 2024. GHETTO originally exhibited at the European Cultural Centre (ECC) 2021 Venice Architecture Biennale and Art Gallery of Ontario (2022) before travelling to Vancouver.     For the MOV exhibit, GHETTO proposed a theoretical rezoning project in Vancouver’s False Creek and sought to encourage meaningful dialogue on our collective responsibility to care for one another through the creation of inclusive cities. “How can we live together?” highlights the public input on a housing survey, which was gathered from over 15,000 visitors during the Vancouver exhibition. On 20 of May Lyongo will join the Art & Science Lab on Bonaire. The Art & Science Lab Bonaire is a platform and space that wants to explore the collaboration between art and science. The topic will be ‘Designing with awareness of cultural context and current climatical challenges on the Island of Bonaire’. What does Bonaire’s local art and design look like? Lyongo will discuss this with other (local) artists that are part of the program. For Lyongo, design should reflect the culture of a place or island. What characterizes the Bonairean culture? Until the middle of the 20th century, art competitions were held at the Olympics, awarding medals for achievements in architecture, music, and literature. This unique blend of athleticism and artistry showcased the diverse talents of participants and celebrated the cultural aspects of the games. This thesis is concerned with how two main genres of public art: traditional and ‘new genre public art’ evolved in Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong between 1990 and 2012 in response to political, economic, spatial, social and cultural changes. Since 1990, Chinese public art has focused on traditional forms of public art and the relationship of public art to architecture and urban planning. Unique forms of public art and architecture, I argue, have also been emerging amidst a dynamic of unprecedented rapid urbanisation and the country’s significant engagement with the global community.

OPEN THIS WEEK the inaugural London edition of Together We Art: Architect of One’s Life, a fundraising initiative in support of Life Project 4 Youth (LP4Y) that will bring together a consortium of passionate architects and artists who share a common vision of empowering the next generation. The exhibition brings together a consortium of 19 renowned and emerging international architects and multi-disciplinary artists committed to equal opportunities for Youth, including Alice Anderson, Nancy Cadogan, Amélie Chabannes, Marie Maillard, Nathalie Du Pasquier, Thomas Heatherwick, Matthew Hilton Limited, Jeremy Hutchison, JonOne, Liane Lang, Nicolas Lefeuvre, LionHeart, Jamie Morgan, Sven Mouton, Jemma Powell, Narinder Singh Sagoo MBE MBE and Emma Summerton. They generously donate remarkable artworks that will be showcased and made available for purchase during the show. Life Project 4 Youth (LP4Y) is an alliance of 17 local organisations in 14 countries, empowering young individuals (17-24 years old) facing extreme poverty and exclusion through innovative solutions for their professional and social inclusion. Life Project 4 Youth (LP4Y) believes in the potential of art and architecture to inspire social and ecological change while engaging the wider arts community. Art stimulates and motivates while architecture brings a sense of structure and wellbeing, inspiring confidence and self respect. The physical spaces we evolve in have a profound impact on our lives and shape our behaviors, attitudes, and overall well-being. However, it also acknowledges that we, as humans, have the power to influence and mold our built environment. We have the power to constantly reinvent ourselves for a better future. I recently read about the Museum of Emotions, a groundbreaking competition organized by the World Architecture Community. It provides a unique platform for architects, academics, and students worldwide to collaborate, share ideas, and push the boundaries of architectural expression globally. Theme for its 3rd (2023) edition- Using architecture as a tool to bring out different emotions. They are asked to design a museum that includes two separate exhibition halls that bring out contrasting emotions – one inducing negative emotions, and the other inducing positive emotions. Here are my key takeaways from each winner in its 3rd (2023) edition - 1st Prize: "Memorial of the Tree" by South China University of Technology - "Memorial of the Tree" intricately explores life and death through a strategically positioned skylight, visually connecting two worlds. - The design's impact is highlighted by the strong influence of visual storytelling in architectural innovation. - Beyond showcasing the creators' innovative spirit, it also serves as a reminder of the emotional depth architecture can evoke. 2nd Prize: "Living Things" from Chile - "Living Things" explores nature's emotional impact, contrasting a bleak landscape with a lively rainforest. - Going beyond aesthetics, this design demonstrates the potential of light and spatial dynamics in architecture. - The interplay of light and space not only shapes the environment but also tells a compelling story that deeply connects emotionally with those who experience it. 3rd Prize: "The Inverse" from Malaysia - "The Inverse" takes an experimental approach to scale, urging visitors to confront their smallness in a vast space. - The intentional play with scale encourages one to reflect on the significance of spatial perception. - This design invites individuals not just to observe but actively engage, offering a thought-provoking and immersive architectural experience. The common thread among the Museum of Emotions' 2023 winners lies in their ability to transcend architectural boundaries by using innovative design elements and proving just how impactful architectural elements are when it comes to evoking strong human emotions. These designs inspire us, people of the residential realty sector, to see architecture beyond physical structures but as a canvas of imagination.
