BMHC Board President, The Honorable Dr. Larry Wallace, Jr., Ph.D., co-authored a health-equity-focused article with Dr. Norman Chenven, MD., of Austin Regional Clinic, and David Stein, CEO of Babson Diagnostics, called "Three Guys Walk into a Conference And...", in the July 2024 Edition of the Austin Medical Times Magazine. What is unique about this collaborative piece is how it was born. Three guys, who come from very different places—a medical group, community care coordination, and a diagnostics company—met as they all sat on a panel at the 2023 Healthier Texas Summit hosted by It's Time Texas in collaboration with the University of Texas System. However, they all had one question in common and that is: "How do we remove barriers, make access to care easier, and reduce any fear and anxiety related to getting medical help?" They all acknowledged statistics show the health equity gap appears to be more acute in Texas than in many other states. According to their article, our state recently ranked poorly across 24 healthcare metric determinants spanning across four categories: access, outcomes, cost, and quality of care. They also agreed the challenge of improving care is big and complex, but the place to start is with preventative care. Founder, CEO, Care Management Consultant: Providing Outsourced Clinical Care Teams and Full Turnkey RPM/CCM/RTM Solutions for Providers
Grateful for the opportunity to attend and speak at the Rural Practitioners of Texas Conference these last few days in Fredericksburg, hosted by the Texas A&M University School of Medicine Rural Medicine Program. The conference was so well done! Huge applause for those who organized it! Rural health practitioners face an entirely different level of challenges compared to their urban counterparts. Their resources are much more limited. The expectations on them are much higher. They go over and beyond everyday in every aspect of care for their patients to make sure that they do what is best for their patients. Their patients become their family. It’s such an honor to partner with these groups to provide Care Management (RPM/CCM) services. The patients in these areas are the receptive and grateful for the additional level of care that comes from participating in these programs. Our patient engagement and outcomes in these areas speak for themselves. Are you an independent provider in a rural area? Are you looking to implement CCM and/or RPM? Are you worried about the cost and/or the additional work you believe it will involve? Have you already tried to implement it internally, without success? If so, LET’S CHAT! I guarantee I can show you an easier way. Our goal is to make the entire process as simple and as beneficial as possible for the patients, our providers and their teams. #ruralhealthcare #remotepatientmonitoring #chroniccaremanagement #rpm #ccm #careteams

Advocating for Healthcare as a Right: A Conversation with Congresswoman Lucy McBath At the National Orthopedic Leadership Conference, I had the honor of meeting with Congresswoman Lucy McBath, a leader who truly understands the needs of her constituents and fights daily for improved access to care, particularly in rural Georgia. Her passion for healthcare equity is clear—she believes that healthcare is not a privilege but a fundamental right that every Georgian should have access to, regardless of where they live or their socioeconomic status. During our discussion, Congresswoman McBath highlighted the unique challenges faced by rural communities, where access to specialists, timely care, and even basic health services is often limited. She has made it her mission to address these disparities, advocating for policies that close the healthcare gap and ensure that no one is left behind, no matter how remote their location. Her tireless work reflects her deep understanding of the struggles her constituents face, especially those in underserved areas. Whether it’s pushing for expanded healthcare coverage or improving the availability of essential services, Congresswoman McBath is on the front lines, advocating for solutions that benefit all Georgians. What resonated with me most was her unwavering belief that healthcare is a right. This principle fuels her advocacy and drives her to push for legislative changes that prioritize patient care and access. In a time where healthcare inequities are glaringly evident, Congresswoman McBath’s leadership reminds us that we must continue to fight for a system that works for everyone—urban, suburban, or rural. Her commitment to ensuring that every Georgian has access to the care they need inspires me and reinforces the importance of advocating for healthcare policies that serve all communities. #HealthcareAdvocacy #RuralHealth #PatientCare #HealthcareIsARight #PhysicianLeadership

Black Men’s Health Clinic (BMHC) proudly announces a new collaborative partnership with BioBehavioral Research of Austin (BBRA), marking a significant step towards bridging gaps and disparities within healthcare specific to clinical trials. As a part of the QCR (Quality Clinical Research) Network, this collaboration aims to address the critical issue of underrepresentation amongst people of color, in particular black men, relating to approved medications prescribed by providers or available over the counter. BMHC and BBRA are joining forces to ensure medical interventions are thoroughly evaluated before being marketed and prescribed medication promoted for them. BBRA has expertly trained medical staff and is respected for their commitment to delivering high-quality healthcare. Both the BMHC and BBRA are looking forward to this partnership, underscoring a shared dedication to addressing healthcare disparities and promoting inclusivity in clinical research. As we begin Heart Health Month, we must spotlight an under-discussed challenge factoring into the alarming incidence of heart attack and stroke in underserved communities. Hospital-based health systems that provide essential medical care to lower-income patients across the U.S. are facing enormous financial, staffing, and resource challenges. In addition to caring for marginalized populations, these anchor health systems train new generations of physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals. They are crucial to the well-being of their surrounding communities and to the interests of local businesses whose employees depend on their care. To sustain U.S. health care for the long term and advance health equity that can save lives, businesses and governments as well as these health systems themselves must be frank about the challenges — and must innovate deftly to find solutions that can actually be implemented. #digitalhealth #healthcareAI #telehealth #remotepatientmonitoring #healthequity #healthdisparities #healthsystems #healthsystemsstrengthening #hearthealth #hearthealthmonth
