Wishing Penderyn Distillery a very happy birthday for the award winning Hafod-Morfa Copperworks distillery project, 1yr today! How the site has changed! Amazing repurposing of historic buildings by City & County of Swansea and GWP Architecture saving them for the future. Here’s the site as it was when we had just completed our excavations. We made some very significant discoveries and it has been a privilege to be involved in the project. You can see some of the discoveries here 👉 https://lnkd.in/ehD8Hp_G #industrial #archaeology #photogrammetry #3d

Over the past year I've been experimenting with semi-automatic segmentation of archaeological discrete features from photogrammetric models. This is a quick and interactive method that allows the creation of 3D volumetric meshes. I'm currently working on releasing the .blend files for this as well as some documentation. #archaeology #blender #digitalarchaeology #3D

Heritage conservation starts with a clear vision of a site's challenges and potential. Orthographic images are an essential tool for the conservation and management of historic buildings, landscapes and archaeological sites. They provide quick, accurate and scalable depictions of structures without perspective distortion. Our images help architects, planners, archaeologists and conservation teams analyse details, plan restoration work and document cultural heritage in great detail. From intricate facades to hidden structural challenges, our data supports informed decision-making to safeguard authenticity. A fascinating article about neolithic mega-settlements in the Ukraine. I appreciate how the GIS Analyst highlighted the darkness of the mounds and surrounded them with a white glow. The contrast helps the reader see how vast the site is. Moreover, they paired this map with an illustration (posted in the comments) that brings this study to life. After reading this article and seeing the visuals, I hope pairing maps and illustrations will become more commonplace! https///https://lnkd.in/gP7m7-aj #GIS #GISmapping #ArcGISPro #ESRI #cartography #topography #geography #archaeology #illustration

🌳 The #SCATTER project has spent the past year creating detailed 3D models of some of the UK’s most famous ancient oak trees. 🍃 Using laser-scanning #LiDAR technology, researchers from multiple institutions mapped 40 veteran oaks to uncover insights into their carbon storage and inform better conservation strategies. 💡 ⏩ Check out the stunning 3D models of these iconic trees and learn more about this innovative research. #AncientTrees #NationalTreeWeek #TheTreeCouncil
🌳 With support from us, the #SCATTER project has spent the last year making detailed 3D models of some of the UK’s most famous old oak trees. 🍃 Researchers from UCL Department of Geography, Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, and the National Centre for Earth Observation visited 40 ancient and veteran oaks and made 3D models of each tree using a laser-scanning technique known as #LiDAR. ❓ The architecture of #AncientTrees is often very complex. This makes it hard for scientists to determine how much carbon they have sequestered, and which conservation measures are most effective. 💡 These 3D tree maps will help researchers trying to solve these mysteries and form a unique digital archive that anyone can view! ⏩ Swipe through to see detailed 3D maps of the UK’s widest oak, Northern Ireland’s oldest tree and others! 👉 Learn more about the SCATTER Project and see more 3D tree models here: https://lnkd.in/e3uyhEDw #NationalTreeWeek The Tree Council

#30DayMapChallenge---- İstanbul Big Island Vintage Map Day 7: Vintage-- In this map, I combined my passion for cartography with nostalgia by recreating one of Istanbul's most iconic locations, Buyukada, in a vintage style. Using QGIS, I aimed to capture the atmosphere of old maritime maps. To evoke the spirit of the sea, I added parchment textures and a blue sea background, incorporating traditional ship icons like those seen in historical maps. 🗺️🚢 #GIS #MapDesign #Geography #30DayMapChallenge #DataVisualization #QGIS
