LGBTQ+ led and serving organizations are chronically under resourced. According to Funders for LGBQT Issues’ Grantmaking by US Foundations Report, for every $100 awarded by US foundations in 2021, only 28 cents specifically supported LGBTQ communities and issues; foundations allocated less than 4 cents per $100 of their total giving to trans communities and issues. These numbers are alarming, but they speak to the lack of investment in LGBTQ+ led and serving work - Which is why organizations like ours are so reliant on community donations! Please join us in making a meaningful impact on the lives and futures of systems-impacted trans and queer people this Give OUT Day! https://lnkd.in/gzupHnkN

WHY IT MATTERS:
Thrilled that M&T Bank is supporting the Equality Community Center with $20,000 to further their mission and important work. We look forward to partnering with the ECC throughout the year and making a difference in our community! The Equality Community Center (ECC) in Portland is the first of its kind in Maine - a collaborative workplace for LGBTQ+ and allied social justice-seeking non-profit organizations while also serving as a community center for Maine’s LGBTQ+ community. My colleagues Mike Ross, Isaac Yeboah Yeboah, Katie Rooks of M&T Bank, and Wilmington Trust's Jerry Weidner of Wilmington Trust enjoyed a tour and presented a $20,000 donation to the ECC. “The funds from The M&T Charitable Foundation will support our efforts so we can continue to provide a space where everyone can be their authentic selves and thrive.” - Chris O’Connor, Executive Director, ECC Board

Third Sector In-depth: How are LGBT+ charities navigating hostile environments? 🏳️🌈 This was such an important piece of work for me both professionally and personally (and the longest feature I've written for Third Sector yet!). It was a privilege to speak to so many incredible LGBT+ charity CEOs and former chiefs about the increasingly challenging environment that staff working in these institutions are currently facing, and hear about how the sector is rallying together to continue the good fight. A big thank you to Nancy Kelley, Lauren Stoner, Tim Spoor MA DipSW MInstF (cert) FRSA MBE and Paul Roberts OBE for speaking with me and for all the work you do. Short excerpt: "In recent years, the media spotlight has turned increasingly on the work of LGBT+ charities. “All-powerful Stonewall has overreached itself”, read the headline on an opinion piece in The Times newspaper in 2021. “Where did it all go wrong for trans charity Mermaids?”, a feature in The Spectator magazine asked in 2022. "And in recent days, a columnist in the London Evening Standard newspaper described Stonewall as a “pernicious, ubiquitous campaigning group”, in a column that argued the LGBT+ rights charity “has a terrible grip on British public life”. "In an environment where the media, politicians and public discourse can veer towards narratives that are unfriendly or outright hostile to LGBT+ communities and their allies, charities that serve this space appear to be subject to an increase in leadership churn..." The Disinformation Project is New Zealand's only independent research group providing best practice monitoring, research and consulting on disinformation and its impacts. Throughout April they are holding a workshop series aimed at communications and engagement professionals. These one-day workshops will be held in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch, and will help people in communications and messaging roles build organisational resilience to disinformation and online targeting through: ✤ Sharing an understanding of disinformation and its impacts in New Zealand. ✤ Outlining its implications for organisations. ✤ Identifying and workshopping solutions to organisational gaps in strategy, resourcing and knowledge. ✤ Workshopping a communications approach that is strategic, values-based and purpose-driven. Sliding scale ticket pricing will be available for registered charities and not-for-profits, and Rainbow Tick certified organisations will be offered a discount to reflect the increase of disinformation aimed at organisations promoting LGBTQ+ inclusion. Registrations of interest are now open: https://lnkd.in/g5JbAAM4

Helping women and LGBTQ+ founders and organisations look good while being inclusive and accessible | Founder @ Studio Lutalica | Fractional Creative Director | British Creative Businesswoman of the Year 2023-24
🌈 I am queer. And I don’t like Pride Month 😮💨 I’ll be honest — I have complicated feelings about Pride right now. We have an entire month to celebrate our existence thanks to Black and Brown, Queer and Trans people who riot made it possible for us to get our rights — rights that are still being challenged today everywhere in the world. Pride started as a riot, it should be about resistance and community. But instead, I/we need to work so much harder than any other month because this is the only month our voices get tolerated — and on top of that, corporations use them to make a (huge) profit. 💔 It is draining. This is why at Lutalica, I’m not pushing our comms team to make as much noise as we could during Pride Month. We work for the LGBTQ+ community all year round, and I don’t want my colleagues to feel overwhelmed because this is the only time of the year when straight people acknowledge us. 💪 We want to keep working for the community, providing free support to non-profits who struggle to raise funds for an inclusive brand or an accessible website. These things are not only important, they are crucial, and I will keep shouting this to whoever will listen. I wish we could have started our crowdfunding earlier than Pride Month. We could have done it later, but July and August are holiday months, in September people have no money post-holiday, and then it’s basically Christmas. So here we are — and honestly, it’s not going as well as we hoped because we’re being drowned out by voices that only speak up in the month of June. But we still need your support. 👉 Please watch the video in this post where I explain why this is important. Check out the testimonials we’ve been posting — they are proof that our work is necessary. And then, please reshare and donate to our crowdfunding campaign here 👉 https://lnkd.in/ekREhQ3U ✨ Help us design a brighter future for women and queer communities. #QueerAndProud #LGBTQSupport #PurposeOverProfit #Crowdfunding #InclusiveDesign #CommunitySupport #DesignForChange #HappyPride #PrideMonth I'm curious about what other trans and queer entrepreneurs/professionals think. 📣 This is a BIG one folks - we need your help! Today we’re launching a major fundraising campaign to support pro-bono design services for feminist and LGBTQ+ organisations! 🌈✨ In today’s climate, it’s crucial for these organisations to have a strong brand and accessible online presence. Our goal is to provide these essential tools to those who need them most but can’t afford them. Your support can make a real difference. By donating, you’re helping us amplify the voices of those fighting for equality and justice. Together, we can create a more inclusive and equitable world.
