These rules govern how much companies linked to club owners can pay in sponsorships, aiming to ensure transactions are carried out at fair market value. This case could have significant implications beyond football, potentially impacting tax law in the UK. If the related party sponsorship rule is deemed a breach of competition law, it could pave the way for challenges to Transfer Pricing (TP) rules. Premier League Clubs Delay Vote on Associated Party Transaction Rules A planned vote to amend the Premier League's Associated Party Transaction (APT) rules was unexpectedly withdrawn ahead of a meeting on 26 September 2024, sparking speculation about the future of these financial regulations. The APT rules are designed to ensure that commercial deals between clubs and entities connected to their owners are conducted at fair market value. Introduced in 2021 and updated in early 2024, the APT rules aim to safeguard financial integrity within the Premier League by requiring clubs to prove that transactions with associated parties—such as businesses linked to their owners—are priced fairly. These regulations have gained particular relevance in recent years, notably following high-profile ownership changes like the Saudi-backed takeover of Newcastle United. The vote, reportedly focused on a minor amendment to the league’s databank used to assess fair market value in commercial transactions, was unexpectedly pulled from the meeting agenda. While sources described the proposed change as minor, its sudden withdrawal has fuelled speculation that broader issues around the APT rules could be at play. The decision to postpone the vote has raised various theories. One prominent view is that it may be linked to Manchester City’s ongoing legal challenge against the APT regulations. City, in a case launched in June 2024, argues that these rules unfairly limit their commercial freedom and restrict economic competition. Another possibility is that the lack of a vote could signal that Manchester City's case is either still unresolved or has been decided in favour of the Premier League, eliminating the need for any rule changes. If City prevails in their legal challenge, it could force significant modifications to the APT rules, potentially altering the financial framework for all Premier League clubs. This development comes at a time when Manchester City is also involved in a separate legal case concerning 115 alleged breaches of Premier League rules. Although unrelated to the APT case, both legal battles have far-reaching implications for Manchester City and the league as a whole, particularly in terms of financial transparency and governance. The future of the APT regulations remains uncertain, with the Premier League and its clubs now in a state of flux. Any major changes to these rules, particularly if driven by Manchester City’s legal case, could reshape the financial landscape of the league, impacting how clubs manage their commercial relationships and maintain competitiveness. As this situation evolves, all eyes will be on the outcome of Manchester City's challenge and the next steps the Premier League takes in managing its financial regulations. These decisions will likely play a pivotal role in determining the competitive and financial future of English football. https://lnkd.in/eYd2SRPr #ManchesterCity #PremierLeague

Now here's an interesting discussion..... No disrespect to Gareth Southgate because he is a decent individual. But if Gareth Southgate wasn't a former footballer, and now Manager/Coach of England, what would his profession be? I personally think Gareth Southgate would be an accountant. As we all know, accountants are merely bean counters, regardless of the colours, but moreso, accountants don't take risks, always reside on the air of caution, plus will be negative to anything they don't understand. So what does everyone else think? All the players at Gareth Southgate's disposal, and system options, could be seen as potential TAX mitigation, and/or legal TAX avoidance. Sport is business, business is sport. This is just an interesting sideline after all 🏴🏴

EUR 400 million: four hundred million euro. The financiers of the Provincial Command of the Guardia di Finanza of Reggio Calabria and of the Scico, of Rome, under the coordination of the local Public Prosecutor's Office - Anti-mafia District Direction, directed by Giovanni Bombardieri, are executing - in Calabria, Puglia and Abruzzo - to a measure issued by the Prevention Measures Section of the Court of Reggio Calabria, which orders the application of the patrimonial measure of confiscation of corporate assets, trusts and financial assets - for a total estimated value of approximately EUR 400 million - attributable to an entrepreneur operating in the online gaming and betting sector. The criminal figure of the entrepreneur had emerged in the 'Galassia' operation, conducted by the Reggio Calabria Economic-Financial Police Unit and the Scico of Rome to combat the infiltration of the 'ndrangheta in the on-line gaming and betting sector, which allegedly allowed to discover the existence of a sophisticated and highly profitable criminal system, aimed at the illicit collection of on-line bets, with decision-making and operational base in Reggio Calabria and ramifications also abroad through companies with offices in Malta, Romania, Austria and Spain. These companies would have acted through a 'cascade' profit system, from the master, top of the pyramid and promoter of the organisation, to the end user, the final player. The association in question would have had links with the 'ndrangheta, to which it would have guaranteed part of the proceeds in exchange for protection and diffusion of the brand online and in local shops. In fact, the bookmakers would have entered into agreements with the hegemonic cosche in their respective territories, in order to consolidate their economic position in the Calabrian territory, particularly in the province of Reggio Calabria. Finally, the affiliated points would have transferred the sums collected to the administrative management of the association located abroad, thus evading Italian taxation. The figure of the entrepreneur, the real ruler of a company with its registered office in Malta, but in fact operating in Italy through a permanent establishment, consisting of several commercial outlets, distributed throughout the territory and dedicated to the collection of bets on games and betting within the framework of the unlawful system described. How much money does the mafia have? This was just a police operation, so it adds up quickly. To be repeated all together: 400 million euro. #antimafia #Italy #Malta
