We all wear seat belts to protect lives. Prevention is better than cure as they say There is no cure for death. How to prevent deaths like this lady? What is wrong with a female (or male) being able to approach the Police and obtain details of any AVO’s or serious criminal charges? A breach of a right to privacy I hear you say? My view is that the right to live beats any right to privacy any day A system can be set up to allow the police to be approached and be allowed to release limited information about another person’s history of personal violence offences and AVO’s Not doing anything? Let’s just keep reading about the death of another woman at the hands of a former or current partner every 3-4 days Not doing anything is not an option

There was an article in the Globe & Mail (2017) I refer to in my upcoming memoir that spoke of how survivors look beyond police and courts for justice, believing the Courts have failed victims in Canada. The case presented below is proof of that. That Court access is an unrealistic option for most victims (V). Consider these sobering facts: The majority of Sexual Assault (SA) V don't come forward. Their reasons for doing so include the above, how rape myths still linger, 'nuanced' SA cases, where criminality can be hard to identify bc of realities including relationship of victim/offender, no witnesses, deep trauma of V recollections of the attacks. So contemplate that in this instance, the V actually, after many unnecessary setbacks she tried to prevent, found temporary reprieve when the accused was found guilty. Then the Courts, disturbingly headed by 2 women- one of which is a former Ontario Chief Human Rights Commissioner- I say disturbing because the public would naturally hope women might be more empathetic to this cause-decide he can walk free because of delays that should not even enter into the equation for access to Justice. One wonders if they found themselves the recipient of such atrocities they would abide by these ridiculous imposed constraints. There have been cases where victims, usually legally unsupported in comparison to the accused, have been left floundering by red tape so long they not only don't receive deserved justice, but take their own lives. In what can only be described as an embarrassing look into how the police and courts contribute to lawlessness, an RCMP mountie has been on paid leave and the recipient of hundreds of thousands of dollars, and not worked for 17 years. He is not alone. This toxic case included a Judge guilty of the same reprehensible act who has since passed. The victim in this case sadly ended up taking her life. That matter has never been proven in Court because it proceeded too slowly to meet the benchmarks needed for charges to proceed. Legislation needs to change where there should be no statute of limitations. Because the Supreme Court tightened their strict timelines to hear Criminal cases, countless fall through the cracks. By enforcing those time constraints it forces an unprotected applicant to give up, simply bc the Courts are arranged in such a manner it actually contributes to preventing access to justice. The majority of grievances are delayed so long, they pass the benchmark. Statutes of limitations are created as another gatekeeper to lessen the burden on the Courts. There is no demonstration of trial fairness as supposedly guaranteed in our Charter of Rights. Justice delayed is indeed, justice denied. Perpetrators walk free, Courts carry on business as usual, and victims live a lifetime of abandonment by our legal institutions.

One of my favorite things about the practice of law is how creative it can be. I've watched brilliant lawyers develop unique, and ultimately successful, case theories where other lawyers have deemed the case unwinnable. I'd love to see the smart folks at the LA District Attorneys Office and the IHG Hotels & Resorts group find a way to discourage people from taking part in the hiding of this sort of monstrous abuse of anyone. Get creative... IHG, shouldn't any money paid by Diddy to hide this video (the $50,000 hush money) really be your profit? After all, it was your surveillance footage and only yours to "sell." Technically, this person stole from you. LA DA, anything around hiding abuse? Unjust enrichment? Depriving the victim of their rights? CNN Share the name of who got paid to hide this. Make it so no one ever feels comfortable hiding abuse again. Get creative.

Dear parents, Protect your children. Not just girls but boys as well, protect them against cyber harassment, sexual physical harassment, protect them against being taken advantage of. Be mean with what they are allowed to watch, when they should be on TV, when they should be on their phones, teach them self discipline, self respect, instill in them the culture of integrity and dignity, self respect and honor. Give them time to understand what they are battling with. some of them are struggling with unmet sexual desires so they resort to pornography, musturbation, uncontrolled sexual lust. I believe defilers are not born, they are made. situations shape most of us into who we become. Support your children in their journey of discovering them selves, be their first cheer leader so they never lose their self confidence and esteem. Teach them to pray and pray because our adversary the devil is roaming around looking for who he may devour. The state is pardoning defilers( based on whichever reasons). Raise your child in a manner that won't turn him into one of these monsters and protect them against these monsters. no one is coming to our rescue. But do not only protect your children, teach them how to protect themselves and above all, pray.

One in three women and one in fourteen men will experience violence from a current or former intimate partner starting at the age of fifteen. There is an inherent lack of safety in sensationalising the crimes. When the media does this it denies the lived experience of people who have been through similar situations, and makes the aggressors feel more important. Why? Same thing that they do with trafficking. Same thing they do with school shooters. The evil become famous, and others dream of having that same fame or fortune. How many kids have idolized the shooters of Columbine? Too many to count. We aren’t just “victims with a story,” we are human beings. They aren’t just “headlines,” they are abusers, traffickers, rapists, and murderers. Let us be humans. Let them be punished. Let’s all live in the real world.

Some articles are just too horrific for a like emoji. I didn’t even want to read it. I do understand the fear of being the next victim, especially for men who intervene, but come on, people, really? We cannot just stand there and look at our shoes. So read it. And think about what you could do to help. My quick skimread skipped the Five D advice, here is an (edited) summary: “1. Direct action. 2. Delegate (ask someone else to help, or call 999, or on a train text 61016 for British Transport Police). 3. Document the evidence. 4. Distract, perhaps by striking up a conversation with a woman being hassled that gives her a chance to escape. 5. If all else fails, Delayed action, or offering sympathy afterwards. But perhaps the missing D is just [overcoming] the ability to suspend disbelief.”Indeed! A perfect time for the adage, “Don’t just stand there. Do something!”🙏
