Ask way too many questions and stay curious about all aspects of your role, or others you may think you’d be interested in.  ⛳ Fun Fact: I liked this photo because it is one of the only pictures I’ve taken of myself golfing and it happens to be at my favorite course. Why Do We Get Nervous? Today’s the day—my final presentation for my summer internship project with Walmart! 🛒 As I prepare to present, I can’t help but feel those familiar nerves creeping in. You know the ones—sweaty palms, racing heart, a mind suddenly blank despite weeks of preparation. But here’s the thing: why do we get nervous? Well, nerves are a natural response, an indicator that something matters to us. It’s our body’s way of saying, “Hey, this is important!” Nerves keep us sharp, focused, and ready to bring our A-game, which is exactly what I plan to do today. What’s funny, though, is that even when we’ve done all the research, practiced until we can recite our material in our sleep, and prepped every detail, nerves still find a way to sneak in. It's almost like they’re that one item in your Walmart cart that you didn’t really need but somehow convinced yourself to keep. (Come on, we’ve all been there with those clearance aisle temptations!) So, here’s to embracing the nerves. After all, without them, we might just stroll into our presentations like we're browsing the cereal aisle—calm, but maybe not quite as alert as we should be. And where’s the fun in that? To everyone facing their own “final presentations” in whatever form they may take—remember, nerves mean you care. And if you care, you’re already halfway to success. The first time I travelled to NYC, very early in my broadcasting career, I stood in the middle of Times Square looking up at the giant billboards, dreaming of a moment like today. It didn't come easy, and it didn't come fast. In fact, I was in New York City at that time to interview for an internship at NBC at the young age of 20. That was one of the best opportunities that didn't happen. Why? Because 17 years later, I have worked tirelessly to create and share my message about workplace wellness, building resilient relationships, and changing people's lives through the Healthy Habits App. To spread this vision, and see it now lighting up Times Square is proof that dedication to teamwork, collaboration, and following your dreams truly pays off — and it's still just the beginning! Here I am, reflecting on my two-month internship journey at Loons. I vividly recall arriving with little direction, uncertain about how to restart my career. The interview felt like a conversation with peers who shared a similar mindset. What drew me to join was the founders' approach to thinking and understanding. They were simple and direct, saying, ""Don't mess up the work; we'll take care of the rest." Over these two months, I made plenty of mistakes. Sometimes the feedback was, "Okay, don’t make this a habit." Other times, it was about taking personal responsibility and completing tasks independently. When I made a significant error while handling a project from start to finish, their response was, "Find a solution and figure out how to fix this." What stood out to me was their use of "we" instead of "you." It was never about why "you" didn't do things correctly but always about why "we" weren't able to get things right. Moving from an intern to an executive position offers a wealth of additional learning opportunities. Loons

And those jobs weren’t paying. I saw this ad for Cutco Knives that was like, “Make up to $5,000 a week working 10 hours,” or whatever. It ended up being this amazing sales program. I literally learned the fundamentals of selling, value creation, conveying features and benefits. It built up this skill that I continue to use today as a CEO—when I’m talking to team members, when I’m talking to investors, when I’m talking to partners. OMG!!! I'm officially a social media ambassador for Hollister Co. under Abercrombie & Fitch Co. 🥳 Growing up, I remember going into my local mall and wanting to be a commercial model for stores like Hollister and Abercrombie & Fitch. But growing up in a predominantly white town, I was shamed for being a woman of color... ... and I was even told by my white classmates that I could never be a model because I'm "too Asian," "too exotic," or "not normal enough." But a few years later, here I am... ...one step closer to one of my dreams of becoming a commercial model :) And in the process, I've learned 3 things: ✅ Don't listen to people who tell you to be "more normal." If you live life trying to please others, you will never be satisfied. So you might as well do what you genuinely love. ✅ Unapologetically pursue the things you want to pursue. Don't let your peers influence your career path. Don't let your parents influence your career path. It's your career, not theirs. And if they don't support your dreams, pursue those dreams anyway because you'll regret it if you don't. It's better be happy chasing your dream than miserable chasing someone else's. ✅ Don't let others' opinions of you shape your self worth. Growing up, I was a huge people pleaser. But I realized...why do I keep pleasing other people at the expense of my personal dreams and wellbeing? So when I stopped listening to others' opinions and unapologetically chased my dreams at full-speed, I started getting the opportunities I wanted. Here's some fascinating data from Handshake about the rise of intern hiring in pro sports (link below). The Boston Red Sox, Seattle Mariners, Green Bay Packers, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are among the top pro sports employers posting internships on Handshake recently. Other cool data: - Pro sports internships have risen 300% since 2020. - The top jobs among sports employers are in retail, the front office, media / entertainment / art, tech, sales, and marketing - Top locations for sports jobs on Handshake have included Minneapolis, Boston, Los Angeles, and cities throughout the Midwest - On Handshake, sports-related job searches rose drastically from 2022-2023: sports marketing searches rose ~23%, sports media rose ~22%, sports analytics rose 15%, and sports management rose ~14% Read more below.

👩🏽💻🧠🦈It’s officially been 1 year since my internship last year and 9 months since joining Kroger full-time. It’s been such an exciting past year on the professional development side. The corporate world is such a different environment, but I have loved the hustle and collaboration that comes with it. I feel like I have learned so much in the short time I’ve been here, and I’m so excited to see what the next year brings. I’ve really been able to apply my experiences and perspectives to things, and it’s been so fun to see my ideas come to life. Here are three things I've learned along the way: ✨If you’re going to fail, fail with your best foot forward. Fail quickly and pivot promptly. In the world of retail, you follow numbers and trends. Ideas and strategies change, and once you learn to be flexible, that’s when rejection becomes redirection. (Thanks to my boss for his current patience on this one✅.) ✨You don’t know what you don’t know, so ask the question. If you're nervous to ask, write it down, send an email, or direct message someone who may know the answer. It’s one thing to admit you don’t know something; it’s another not to ask or search for the answer and try to contribute meaningful solutions. ✨Lastly (it wouldn’t be a post by me if I didn’t include it), have good vibes. Negativity can be felt by everyone. Not every day is going to go exactly how you want. You can’t control the economy or consumer behaviors, but you can control how you react, communicate, and respond to things. So leave rooms and conversations with a positive attitude.
