A few good reads to understand how policies in California affect investment in the state and costs for consumer:  • The WSJ highlighted how policies in California make the state “riskier than investing in other states, with projects being lower in quality and higher in cost…” to meet the California’s increasing energy demand.   • There is also data from the Center for Jobs that show California's high price rankings (California Energy Price Data for November 2023 - Center for Jobs) among the continguous states implicating policy impact.   • Chevron is responding, with a letter to the California Energy Commission recommending that California should "shift from a policy that disincentivizes production and toward one that incentivizes investment and innovation."

Energy is essential to modern life, and Chevron is proud to play a role in providing affordable, reliable, and ever-cleaner energy that enables human progress around the world. The Wall Street Journal Editorial board recently wrote a piece discussing how California's policies are making the state “riskier than investing in other states, with projects being lower in quality and higher in cost…” to meet California’s growing energy demand.   In addition, the California Center for Jobs & the Economy (https://lnkd.in/gkR6gYHB) published a report on California Energy Price data (https://lnkd.in/g_m2TtjY) that shows how California’s policies are affecting costs and pricing. Overall, California’s energy price rankings remain at or near the highest among the contiguous states. Average commercial electricity, gasoline, and diesel prices were again the highest, and industrial electricity the second highest.   The editorial also highlights how the oil and gas industry is responding, featuring excerpts from a letter Chevron sent to the California Energy Commission (CEC) in December 2023 (https://lnkd.in/gGhhChbc).   I encourage you to read the article from the WSJ Editorial board, along with the letter to the CEC, and explore the California Energy Price Data report to understand how California policy is continuing to drive higher consumer costs, creating challenges for future investments, and reducing access to affordable and reliable energy.
