Looking to retain employees? Here's a few things you can do that don't take much effort to show appreciation to them. 1. Celebrate work anniversaries - if contracting could celebrate a second, third, etc. if FTE can celebrate 3 months, 6 months, and every year after that. 2. Celebrate growths and achievements of employees - have someone who made a huge difference? This could be developing a new product or something else that made a huge difference. Celebrate it! Celebration doesn't always have to be a party, it could be something like an email or a kudos given on a board. 3. If the employee is comfortable (ask first), celebrate their birthdays. Birthday cards with stuff written from teams is one idea. Another could be writing an email or even having a little party. RTO is popular again. 4. Promote a culture where people can put each other up for their wins. 5. A good feedback culture. Feedback can be trained to be given in a specific format that is more easily received. Can an organization be inclusive while overlooking or disregarding the needs or perspectives of certain employee groups - i.e. non-office workers? A recurring topic in DEI Club is the question of how to ensure that our inclusion efforts also engage and impact non-office workers. Many report a noticeable "us vs. them" dynamic between corporate and manufacturing sites/frontline workers, where DEI initiatives are more readily embraced in office environments. This can have detrimental effects on business, engagement, and morale. Barriers include communication hurdles (lack of effective internal comms. channels that can reach everybody), non-inclusive language, physical distance, time zone variations, cultural and other differences. Without careful consideration DEI efforts run the risk of widening the gap further. So, how can we avoid perpetuating an "A vs. B" dynamic with our DEI efforts? The answers should naturally align with each company's unique context - business goals, organization, corporate culture etc. - however, generic considerations may be helpful as guidance.
