#ThankfulThursday and today, I am #grateful for enthusiasm. The quote pictured today was part of a collection that hung in my office for years, alongside those about good judgment and broken ankles (message me if you'd like links to either or both of those #ThankfulThursday posts). The mentor I mentioned in last week's post offered more words of wisdom: "We're all in sales." There are few things I'm more enthusiastic about than creating the future and strong leadership. My mentor's observation that "We're all in sales" was something that never was posted as a quote to be reminded of, but I will attest to the fact that it has been proven true time and again. I have both experienced it and witnessed it... "We're all in sales." Applicants are selling their capabilities to potential employers. Employers are selling their organizations to potential applicants. CEOs are striving to successfully secure the support of their Board, their shareholders, the employee population, and their customers to buy their leadership, confidence in their ability to increase value, provide security in employment, and effectively fulfill needs and wants through their products and services. CHROs likewise focus on the business with a keen eye in endeavoring to drive the culture (a high performing, capable, welcoming, respectful, and rewarding value proposition) for the benefit of those they serve. Pick any area of the organization and substitute the scope of focus and responsibilities...IT, engineering, marketing, finance, accounting..."We're all in sales." Each discipline brings their specialized knowledge of how the successful integration of the dynamics within their respective scope of responsibility contributes to and drives results for the organization. But none of those outcomes happen without enthusiasm. Not necessarily the extrovert vs. introvert kind of enthusiasm (though cheerleading is inherent regardless). The most successful leaders I've worked with possess a compelling ability to create followers. And followers in the form of leaders, investors, employees, and customers are indicative of successful sales... Leaders only need to look around and seeing who's convinced... Who is buying what you're selling? When you see the impacts, it's easy to understand that it's not merely having the knowledge, it's also enthusiasm that sells. Yes, indeed, "We're all in sales."

“Partnership teams cannot function in a vacuum.” This was the highlight of my last chat with Greg Portnoy. Sure, #BetterTogether is about two separate companies helping each other win. But what about departments within the same company? After all… that's where it all starts (or ends). I talked with tons of partnership folks in the last couple of months and it's sad how “left out” they can sometimes feel. It's hard for partnership teams to function on their own. They need support and insights from marketing, CS, and sales teams to be good at their jobs and ultimately prove their value to the leadership. Without that, they just exist in a silo. And that's hard for everyone. But… If internal teams get this right and *actually* figure out how they can support each other, that's when the magic happens. What's your experience/observation? Is it similar or am I completely off? - PS: Is my handwriting really as bad as people say? ✍️🤔
