We recently completed a bespoke project for the mining sector, supplying customised FRP Vinyl Ester Sump Guard Covers. These covers are engineered to meet the client’s specific needs, capable of withstanding heavy loads and harsh chemical environments in various processing areas of the mine. The first photo was taken during the fabrication process, while the other two were taken on delivery day, showing the covers as they were dispatched to our client.

A few days ago, I visited a gold mining site that was well-organized, with two jaw crushers to make crushing easier before the ore was ground by a small dry ball mill, known as a 'Karasha.' But then I saw women hammering stones by hand. What went wrong? How did they get to this point? As an engineer, I had to check the jaw crushers. A quick look showed one crusher had completely worn-out liners while the other had the movable jaw removed due to cracking. Now, did the liners wear out in just one day? Definitely not! What do you do when a flexible mining hose just isn’t flexible enough? That was the problem the engineers at Hatch were having when designing FMG’s Iron Bridge plant. They needed a flexible mining hose to cope with significant thermal movement from the HDPE gravity launder pipe—up to 420mm of movement in operation. Rigid pipe was an automatic ‘no’ because it wasn’t flexible enough. And most mining hoses they looked at weren’t suitable because they knew they would kink. That’s why they decided to go with Slurryflex SF-Series Superflex mining hose. It’s the only hard wall slurry hose available that can reach a bend radius of 4-7D – and withstand the highly abrasive iron ore slurry. Upgraded your process plant piping but still not getting the result you wanted? - For the reliability team at FMG’s Solomon iron ore mine, a gravity fed lined steel bend in their cyclone overflow was a constant source of frustration. The original rubber lined steel elbow was only lasting six months. Even upgrading to ceramic lined steel was only buying them a few extra months. Beefing up the lined steel piping wasn’t solving the fundamental flaw – that there’s no flexibility to absorb and dissipate impact from high velocity slurry. That’s why we recommended they use ceramic lined mining hose. The hose’s flexibility provides ‘give’ while the ceramic tiles increase the wear resistance from abrasive slurry. The results speak for themselves – the Slurryflex CLX hose last 8x longer than the rubber lined steel and 5x longer than the ceramic lined pipe.
