Baphalali Eswatini Red Cross Society executes its humanitarian mandate through the use of seven (7) fundamental principles. Weekly every Wednesday which is themed, "Principle Wednesday", we will unpack each principle and its meaning. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐮𝐫𝐛𝐚𝐧 𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐟𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐝, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐨𝐧 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞'𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬? This is the question IMPACT Initiatives sought to answer with an area-based assessment on Urban Centres Regained by Ukraine. Looking at the experiences of three cities of different sizes and geographies, #Izium, #Kherson and #Trostianets, we compiled 𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐧 𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 that could be guidelines in the event of Ukraine regaining control over more cities; and 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐧-𝐟𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐮𝐞𝐥 𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐬. More generally, these findings are also relevant for other contexts experiencing urban warfare.
