This #BloodCancerAwarenessMonth, we stand with Blood Cancer UK to shine a light on the critical challenges faced by the blood cancer community. 🩸
The recently launched report, ‘Taking Blood Cancer out of the Shadow’s, reveals the disparities in survival rates. For every blood cancer subtype, survival in the UK falls short compared to other nations with similar wealth and health systems.
Other alarming statistics captured in the report include:
- In the UK, an estimated 40,000 people are diagnosed with blood cancer every year.
- Blood cancer has the 3rd highest mortality of all cancers in the UK.
- Social determinants appear to have a direct impact on blood cancer survival rates. Every year, around 650 deaths could be avoided, if those diagnosed with blood cancer had the same five-year survival rates of those most socially and economically advantaged.
We remain committed to breaking ground across a spectrum of diseases with high unmet needs, including haematology. We support Blood Cancer UK’s call for action to close these gaps and improve outcomes for all. Together, we can drive change and create a brighter future for those impacted by blood cancer.

We can close the gap for cancer treatment. The reality today is that who you are and where you live could mean the difference between life and death. It isn’t fair. But we can change this.
This year, add your voice to the effort and ask your representative* to close the care gap.
