“Are you excited to go to Kindergarten?!” Asked almost every adult this summer.
We are showing interest and trying to engage. School is such a common thread that it becomes the default question.
I wonder what my child thinks about Kindegarten?
She must think school is really important, maybe even the most important thing, if everyone keeps asking about it. Sounds a little intimidating, right?
So, what else can we ask about?
What is your favorite animal/desert? Did you go to the pool/playground this summer? What do you like to do? (Ask the parent about likes. Kids are excited about lots of things.)
This also applies to adults! We are more than our jobs, so we can shift our default questions.
What questions might you ask to show interest in a whole person?
