Quantity or quality: what should we compete for? Who produces better table grapes: Chile or Peru? A few years ago, achieving the size and visual quality that Peru offers seemed like a big challenge for Chile. But today, with innovation and effort, Chilean grapes have reached a similar level of appearance. So, if both countries now produce beautiful fruit, what’s the next differentiating factor? You might think of flavor, an important attribute. But the market is evolving, and more and more, it demands answers to critical questions: • Which fruit is healthier? • Which has more vitamins and minerals? • How was this fruit produced? Quality is no longer measured just by appearance or sweetness; it’s also about the impact of the production process: • What effects did it have on the environment and the workers? • How efficiently were resources like water used? • Did it reduce its carbon footprint? • Did it help improve the soil and sequester carbon through sustainable and regenerative practices? Today, the real competition isn’t between countries but between producers who are committed to delivering not just beautiful fruit, but also healthy, sustainable, and environmentally conscious products. What do you think? Are we ready to lead this new way of competing in the fruit industry? ( video: Sweet Globe BLOOMFRESH Agricola Convento Viejo, Chile) Enrique Turri Clark

Here in mid Atlantic USA, fruit appearance still drives sales. Grape movement has grown significantly because of increases in average berry size presented at retail.
