At Bloomful we’ve been doing a research piece on women’s health in the workplace, and some of the stories have honestly had me shocked. 👉🏾 “I’d be stuck in the toilet for up to half an hour…I’d literally be praying, trying to stem the flow of blood….And you're thinking in your mind, what are they thinking is going on in the toilet” 👉🏾“I did a laparoscopy and my consultant said ‘You need two weeks to rest.’ When I took that back to my employers they said, ‘No, you only need a week’. So I had a week unpaid.” 👉🏾 “There were numerous times I’d lie on the cubicle floor and take a nap…I’d hear colleagues coming in and think is anyone else doing this? Then you just leave and go back to your desk. It's totally hidden from view.” 👉🏾 “I felt like I had to deal with it alone, that I couldn’t speak to them again due to the lack of response and support….if I was going to be taken seriously, I had to not show any weakness.” These quotes don’t scratch the surface: 24% of women’s absenteeism is due to menstrual health concerns. We need to talk more about how common conditions like endometriosis, fibroids and menopause affect women in the workplace. ———— 🙏🏾 Our anonymous survey is live on our website. We need responses: the data helps us lobby for change and better support workplaces: 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eKZug4XB - please share widely! 🗣️ DM me to explore how Bloomful can help your organisation navigate women’s health through talks, workshops, data gathering and more. #womenshealth #entrepreneurship #workplacewellbeing #startups #bloomful
I have just done the survey Dr. Dupe Burgess and its so thorough. No insights will be left unturned. Its tricky as I now work for myself so I make the rules (and therefore much better) but thinking back to when I was consulting and pregnant there were times I was in tears and couldn't move because I was unable to walk due to pelvic pain but I still forced myself into the office. I was literally crying I was in so much pain. Looking back I wonder why I did that to myself - I suppose I felt like it was my 'fault' for being pregnant and in those days WFH was not a thing.
Such an important piece of research Dr. Dupe Burgess commenting for reach - please do the survey and will share with Female Founders Rise members too in the hope that they can help you too. I’m not surprised by these stats as one who struggled with incredibly heavy periods that meant I couldn’t leave the house.
Dr. Dupe Burgess all terribly sad the things us women have to bare and feel unable to discuss because of the perceived and / real lack of empathy ; thank you for highlighting and raising awareness
Thanks for your work highlighting this Dr. Dupe Burgess 🙏
God this is really shocking. Thanks for sharing these stories!!
Really important research to conduct Dr. Dupe Burgess, commenting for more reach to my network!

6moDr. Dupe Burgess I can relate to some of that! Luckily when I started experiencing symptoms and pains for my endometriosis and fibroids, I was already in my own business so could do what I liked and what I needed but I still felt like I wasn’t ’doing enough’ and I should just suck it up. I had a myomectomy last year and feel so much better for it but it was a a gruelling 20 months wait on the NHS for surgery. We need more research and support for women at work. Not sure how I would have coped if I worked for someone else and was at their mercy.
