Here's lessons learned from helping PE firms hire Operating Executives: 1. There's not a one-size fits all approach 2. The background of the Op Exec will be highly dependent on the PE firm governance model 3. There's two common types of backgrounds - the ex-consultant or ex-operator 4. Hire an ex-consultant if you need the Op Exec to be spread across the portfolio helping with strategy and passing off execution 5. Hire an ex-operator if you need the Op Exec to go deep in only a couple port cos to get things done The PE firms who match the hiring profile with their governance model typically get the best output & engagement from their Op Execs. #privateequity #operatingpartner

“I didn’t map out my career journey in mind in terms of where I wanted to go and where I wanted to end up but what I learned along the way is that working with clients to solve M&A challenges is one of the most rewarding.” M&A Director Steve Mangal has worn many hats in his career. He started in banking, got an MBA, and then transitioned to consulting, where he has worked in operations, restructuring, and M&A practices along the way. Steve found M&A to be a dynamic field, and the scope and high stakes nature of these engagements highly valuable to his professional development and ability to build client relationships. “You’re working on a common goal with your client every day and what you accomplish together forms strong relationships.
